Anyone in the AF or ANG?

Hi guys. I've been mauling over the decision on whether or not to join my university's grad school ROTC program and go to the AF or just enlist in the ANG. I was wondering if any of your fine ego folks who are in the AF or ANG can give me some insight to the service and what to expect, particularly for officers :)

Reserve Officer Training Corps.

BINGO! just want to know if anyone who is currently serving in the AF or ANG or who have served in those branches can kinda give me a run down of what daily AF/ANG life is like and what i should expect. also for active AF members if they really do ship you out to where ever they need you or if they do take into consideration where you would like to be stationed and what your chances are of you getting the country you want to be stationed at. stuff like that :)
 
I'm in Air Force ROTC out of Northern Arizona University (Detachment 027). I love this program a lot and I've made so many friends in such a short period of time. I just started my 200 level year (sophomore) and will be going to field training this summer. I can't tell you what active duty life if like, but the Air Force does treat its personnel very well and I am looking forward to being a part of the whole thing.

I've considered enlisting too, but as long as I'm in college, ROTC is the better option for me. If for whatever reason things don't work out here, I'll more than likely enlist. Cooler jobs for the enlisted in my opinion! If I commission, and I hope I do... I'm looking to be a Security Forces Officer, Command and Control Officer, or Combat Rescue... maybe pilot. I'm not great academically, and I didn't have the greatest scores of all time on the AFOQT (Air Force Officers Qualifying Test) but still pretty good. Not enough I don't think to get a highly competitive slot like pilot or nav, but I'll be happy with anything that doesn't involve too much office time.

well I have been in the USAF 2 years 10 months and I have to say its a chill job. I wont say go officer just for the money, but if you have already invested time in school and rotc there is every reason to follow through and just take the commison. I have known quite a few resentful airman who did a few years of college, or even had bachlors that went enlisted becasue they were impatient with the commisioning process be it OTS ROTC or what have you and then felt regret when they relized they could have just put in a little more time or work and gotten payed a heck of a lot more.

As far as officer jobs, dont be a cop, dont be intel, and dont be supply. try to get a rated slot trust me its a world of difference between rated officers and non rated in the USAF.

If you like to fly think about being ABM, a NAV , or of course a pilot.

If you go enlisted the same thing applies, dont be a cop and try to get a aircrew positon...u get payed more and u just get better stuff.
