HD TV Tuner Cards: Help Me!

Hi all,

I'm looking for a TV tuner card to replace my aging AVerMedia, and I'm looking for the following:

• Component (YCbCr/YPbPr, digital or not; doesn't matter), HDMI, DVI or IEEE1394 (FireWire800a) inputs (meaning it should have at least two); some form of HD input would be fine
• Cable box IR blasters (again, needing two).
• PCI or PCIe, doesn't matter
• Preferably FM or AM radio, but not a requirement.

Basically, I have two hi-def Motorola 6200s (which i got together, new, for $150 CAD) that I'd use with my computer (Windows 7 Media Center or whatever) to record TV and watch hi-def content on my computer.

I dunno if anybody's come across a PCI or PCIe TV tuner with HD inputs, but if I gat something like the Hauppague HVR-2250, the best it has is S-Video (which, of course, can't handle HD video).

Am I screwed? Does anything like what I want exist?

i am a newb on hdtv tuners, but how do you record tv and high def onto your computer? does it work like dvr?

you can only receive limited HD signals on your PC via tuner cards.

Free Local Over-The-Air ATSC HD (ATSC HD is the over-the-air high definition TV)
QAM digital cable TV (Cable only - not satellite)


Havn't seen any TV tuner cards that input HDMI; you'd need a separate device to do that, and I don't think it would work with a satellite boxtop that was outputting HDMI

there are the new(ish) HD cable tuners, but they're difficult (impossible) to get unless you order a new PC, work with your cable company to authurize your pc to work with the tuner, and even then I don't think they're HDMI compatible http://ati.amd.com/products/tvwonderdigital/index.html

Yeah, well, I have two digital cable boxes, and in Canada, there isn't a law that they have to provide CableCards or activate any device that isn't a cable box (like a CableCard). All I was wondering was whether or not there were any TV Tuner Cards that had Component (YPbPr/YCbCr) in instead of Composite or S-Video. From what you told me, should I assume not?

I don't think I've seen any with hdmi inputs, mainly because hdmi is a secure spec, the whole idea of it is it can transport hd video and audio while not being able to be recorded. If you find one, let me know since I would love to record some of my hd videos to my hdd.

Again, i'm not specifically looking for HDMI or DVI; the one I most expected to be present was Component, just because it's (usually) analog (unless it's digital), and I would think the most prevalent (replacing Composite and S-Video). And, Component doesn't have HDCP, and these Motorola cable boxes I have don't do HDCP anyways.
