well hey.. been gone fora couple months, came back and dod doesnt work!!! i opened up dod and join a kalt game, and as soon as im about to spawn, it freezes, then tells me hl2 screwed up..any help? thanks in advance

you've tried it more then once and you get a HL2 error? I know every once in a great while HL2 crashes on me for what ever reason, but I just reload and it works fine.

go to settings, then control panel and then system. Probably the easiest way to see what your running. From there you can also click on the hardware tab in your system file and click on device manager, which will show your all the hardware you have installled on your pc.

Go to Start>Run>dxdiag. Then go over to the video tab and tell us your video card. I'm pretty damn sure you have some crap integrated graphics since your RAM is at 898MB...

Yeah, I think the key here is that he could play before and now he cant with the same system. Thus, it really desnt matter what his hardware is. Even if the settings were changed to be higher than his hardware can handle it would have a detailed error message or he would get about 1 fps.

I dont know what has happened in the last period of time on that computer but it is possible that somehow your game files (or just one) has been corupted. Probably the easiest thing to try is to reinstall HL2 (since that is what gives the message). When you uninstall it you should be able to save your settings so as not to lose any progress made, and then reinstall the game files and update it fully via steam. See if that workes and report back sometime.

greenmonkey, youre making some sense. now, i bought the cs:s package ( u know which one, cs:s dods and hl2:dm) and ive played around with steam (not the files) and i cant seem to get only dods to uninstall. and i can install hl2 only..whaa? please elaborate, sorry if i came acros...ticked off i just got out of bed and i havnt played dod in a couple of days... im cranky lol

Well it is a little unclear what works and what doesnt - but although it may not be the most desired it is usually the option with the highest chance of success to just uninstall everything and then just reinstall steam and let steam re download all the games you own. It remembers which games you own so the annoying part actually will be the downloading part. This will probably fix your problem though.

well if you uninstall steam and reinstall it you might have to enter his username and password again so if you dont know it you may have to tell him.
