What will the drive be used for? Primary OS drive/gaming drive/media storage?

I have this velociraptor as my primary drive. I can not compare it to the other drives, but I will say my boot time is greatly increased when I use this..and everything loads pretty fast.

If you have a raid card, I would get two of the the smaller drives with large bufferes and raid them together (stripe them, not mirrored). That way you will have twice the space of each individual drive while it will be almost twice as fast. If you can afford it, go with 4 drives and have a mirrored, striped array (striping two drives and mirroring that array on the other two).
If you want to go with a single drive, pick one that has high rpm, a high cache, and low access times.

It really depends on if you want more space or better performance. If you want space go with the Seagates or a Samsung they are both cheap and you get a lot of space. If you want performance get a velociraptor.

My first SATA hard drive was a Seagate. It was DOA. Got another from RMA and it died after 72 hours. Bought a Samsung and it failed after couple months. Decided to try out Western Digital, and I am still using that drive to this day(as well as 2 other Western Digital Drives). I will probably never buy a hard disk drive from anybody but Western Digital again. I'm sure Seagate and Samsung are fine; I've just had bad experiences with them, but others never have issues.

I've had very good experiences with hitachi, seagate, and WD. That being said, go for a WD black, they are great speed and quality for the price at this point in time.
