I have a problem with my work computer.

Here's the scoop....

Turned computer off. Next day tried to turn it on and nothing happened. Check all connections and still nothing. Replaced Power supply and still nothing. Figured it might be the button to turn it on, replaced that and nothing. went ahead and got a new case for it (its a 6 year old alienware) and moved the guts to the new case and SOMETHING!!!!

The fans on the PSU, CPU, and vid card started to spin then instantly stop. So, here is where I need some opinions.

I'm thinking the motherboard is shot. I've tried a basic component start up (PSU, CPU, vid card, and 1 stick of of ram only) and get the same result. I was hoping there might be something I'm missing before I get a new mobo.

Any ideas??

everything is 6 years old except the memory, video card, and PSU.

old stuff
mobo: Asus P4c800
P4 2.8 HT
seagate 120gb 7200rpm

newer stuff
7900 gt
2gb cosair
650watt something something

Hmmm. My old Asus P4P800 MB just died. My bet is MB.

so with a bad mobo, it would still start to kick on (fans start to spin) but not.

Saw a deal for the same mobo with the same proc for $89, going to jump on that probably.

That sounds like its grounding out somewhere. Try taking the computer out of your case & putting it on a non conductive surface (wood, glass, etc) clearing the cmos for good luck & then starting it.

I will try that before I make a purchase. Thanks everyone so far, I will let you know what happens.
