does anyone know if it is possible to get xp to recognize 4gigs of ram or do i need to upgrade?

i have 32 bit and 4gb ram it only shows up as 3.5gb so u will lose half a gig

well you could upgrade to xp 64 or even better grab the windows 7 rc or rtm while it is still free than upgrade to windows 7 final when it comes out.

or just leave it because your games wont be able to take advantage of the extra ram anyways because they are 32bit applications for the most part.

The amount shown will vary depending on your hardware. 32 bits =4gb of address space. Resources used by your hardware, including RAM on your video card, is reserved, so you end up with what's left as usable RAM. If you have an SLI rig, you'll end up with 2.5gb of usable RAM in most cases. Point being, you'll never be able to use all 4gb of RAM with a 32 bit OS. In the past, 64 bit operating systems didn't always play nice with certain programs or hardware. Since Vista SP1, 64 bit has really matured into a stable OS. I highly recommend upgrading to a 64 bit OS if possible.
