New Mouse + Keyboard

Just to let you guys know, I am still here and still active. My GPU broke, and like my sig says, I'm still working out the RMA. I figure I'll be on in a month. Now on to the topic.


Well, my mouse and keyboard are... outdated to say the least. I got my keyboard from my mom about 6 or 7 years ago, and she got it from an old sony vaio desktop computer that was new in about 1996. My mouse is a wired Hyundai (don't they make cars?) optical mouse, with a clear bottom so I can see all the wires and stuff and feel like a l33t-haxxor. Both buttons are now white because my fingers have warn off the coat of paint. Also both my mouse and keyboard have this gross grey crap all over them, I figure dried up sweat. It's gross...

I've already tried a $70 (!!!) wireless Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard, but they had really bad connectivity during games. It's like 1 second they were connected, and the next second they weren't, so my in game character would take a step, wait, take a step, wait, etc. I don't know if that was the keyboard's fault, or that my computer (which back then was win2k and the parts were waaaaay out of date) just wouldn't accept the drivers.

So anyway, I want to know what kind of mice and keyboards you guys use. I want one that maybe has a few more features (like those little screens with the cpu usage and temps and stuff) and just feels easy on the hands. I'm not spending more thank $100 on this.

Ryken's suggestion is right in your price range, so I would go with that.

The keyboard he linked is good and the g5 , even if a bit "old", is still a great mouse.

If you can spend a bit more than 100 $, pick the mouse from Riken's post and the keyboard Saeten suggested.

I am using a Lycosa Keyboard and a Lachesis mouse made by Razer, they are both pretty sweet, esspecially if ur tired of logitech, but i also have used saitek, and their keyboard product is decent too.

Its the sleek look, touch pad lighting and satisfying click that make me really like the lycosa.

Logitech USB mouse is just really good. Lasted me about a year. ( Don't get the headsets )

I highly recommend a Logitech G5 or G500. I don't find the keyboard to be as important in the long run, though it's cool to have all the lights. The mouse requires more precision, whereas the keyboard just requires button presses. But yeah the G5 plus Saitek is probably the best within that range, since the G500 is new and still costs $70, you won't get any fancy keyboards.

EDIT: Haha prototype just beat me out on the whole "mouse is more important" thing. But it's true!

Thats not really true, depending on the game you can edit your sensitivity/smoothness of the mouse for better response, but buying an 80 dollar mouse wont automatically increase skill. Going from an old optical mouse to a high end mouse would probably take a few days to get used to.

Get a cheap keyboard that suits you and buy a Razer Deathadder. Comes with drivers cd, smooth gliding on a cloth mousepad. Gets me way up there on the scoreboard of ANY game

If I had a $100 budget, that's what I'd do. (I have a Razer Deathadder, and it works great for me.)

Wow guys, thanks for the outstanding response.

While I can see the argument for a mouse being more important in gaming, I can still handle my old one for awhile, especially when the mice cost $70 on their own. My keyboard is really gross and really starting to wear on me, and with that $30 price tag, I'll seriously consider buying it.

I just bought Halo ODST so I'm not really high on cash right now. I'll save up a bit and buy the mouse eventually.

Also the Razer Deathadder looks super great for only $50. I'll consider that one too.

My mouse and keyboard together are worth around 15 dollars

I'm at school now, and the input peripherals here are better than what I game with, but that's just an opinion. Most people seem to prefer the gaming stuff.
