ok, hdd crapped out, well got that fixed and its looking like the motherboard is crapped out too. 2 seperate problems, yea im abit pissed. so my question to all of you game heads out there is what kind of motherboard and process should i get, i know alittle about them but some imput would be nice. the system i have is an acer, not sure what size case it is, AMD processer in it now, on newegg they have motherboard and CPU combo packs that are decently priced. i'm looking at the combos because if i have to replace crap i might as well upgrade abit. any advice would be grateful.!!!! buying a new computer is somewhat out of the question, dont have that kinda money and the wife will hang me.

This is something that im looking at, need some advice that if this is a decent set up

so price does not really matter?
what will you be using this computer for?
and also, getting a new motherboard and CPU, unless you already have DDR3 ram, you need to upgrade that as well.

Like 80108 said price range and so forth would be nice.

I don't think you should really worry about money and just set a range for what kind of performance you want.

I was able to build a computer with the following specs for under $700.
19" widescreen LCD monitor
350 GB hard drive
4GB RAM
512 MB ATI 4830
and all the other fun parts.

As for bands I would get an Intel Q6600 (It's a quad 2.4 which can be overclocked to 4.0ghz) if you want something cheap but powerful use this like to compare performance.

CPU Comparison using Vantage Mark (You can see the CPU's being tested on other products as well such as Far Cry 2 etc)

As for the motherboard, check out ASUS or Gigabyte. They are well known and if you can score an open box deal on newegg it can be amazingly cheap.

Feel free to PM me if you need some more help or check out overclock.net. They helped me set up my rig so I highly recommend that community (my alias there is TheGrayNobleman).

under 400.00, its an all around computer, but i do play games on it. cant play DOD since it crapped out on me. and it has ddr2 ram

I have the 3.0 GHz phenom II x4 and its great. Mine is only ddr2 memory and AM2+ platform, so you should have a great time with that build. The motherboard is good as well, the dragon platform is the best thing amd has done in a while, Good luck :D !!
