i am having trouble uninstalling Norton, just doesn't want to leave the party even though everyone hates him!!!

but i did get Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 installed

In my experience, most malicious software will remain after doing a system restore.

Yeah. I had an old computer that was a box 'o viruses and i system restored it and they were still there. I had to wipe it all out and restore to factory settings, then do whatever i wanted.

I know it's kind of a chunky program now and it doesn't really have any of the speed that made it once great, but I've had several computers saved in the past by Spybot:S&D. The normal scanner is still really good (if a bit slow), the immunizer is great, and the Tea Timer (process monitor) can put the most malicious malware thru an infinite loop before it cripples your computer, allowing you to remove it and clean up with fairly minimal fuss.

Sorry if a solution has been found, as I didn't read the through the whole thread, but the Kaspersky dic may act as a boot disk too in a situation like this.

Also, your 'run' ability may still be enabled, so try this:

Hold the "windows" key and hit "R"
Type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
Restart the computer restarts; in Safe mode.
Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer

Wait a little bit longer before hitting the key - some motherboards use F8 as the boot options menu also.

This might be a stupid way... but you could hold your power button for about ten seconds or so and it will restart..and before loading your profile page it will ask you in a black sscreen if u want to start regular Windows, SAfe mode, or something like safemode with networking.

well I'm am going to try and salvage what I can making sure to scan anything i take from this comp, then i am going to just have to do the recovery disk. I have ran malawarebydtes, superspy antivirus, avast, and kaspersky (most were run in safe mode) and just can't get rid of these things:cursing:. I'll try the recovery before i use the torch!

Hey man dowload this free edition of avg anti virus run a scan and i guarantee you the virus WILL be quarantined, if you cant install it to your computer, install it to an external hard drive and run it from there

It's not that i didn't, I have not been able to take your advice, I have been trying to put pictures and other files on a flash drive, and for whatever reason it will no longer let me do that. I have run scans on the flash drive and the folders the pictures are in and no viruses have been found. I can't figure out why it won't allow me to transfer data, it started to, it let me transfer like 250 pictures then stopped and won't let me resume. I'm not at home right now or i would tell you exactly what the error message was. I am no computer wiz but i am also not new to them either. my first real computer (not counting the commadoor 64 or atari 7600!) was the HP150 touch screen in the late 80's, google it to see a real dinosaur!

any who, I have been working funky hours and haven't had the time to really figure it out, i will real soon though

I would boot using a Linux live cd and use it to transfer your files over to your flash drive. You can scan them later, before you put them back.

if you only install the needed modules(anti virus,anti malware, webprotection, residence shield and anti root kit the cpu won't raise, maybe it will raise a little when you're scanning, but that will go down again once you have completed. but if it keeps your CPU high thats certainly unusual, but its worth it to get away the virus right??

I got something similar. It was called Total care Antispyware or something. The icon was an orange shield. If it's anything similar to yours I can help, because I got it and deleted it with Rogers Online Protection.

AVG is known for high memory useage.

Your best bet is Bitdefender Free Edition, coupled with COMODO Firewall, both of which are free.

While you are troubleshooting, I suggest you try to work mainly in Ubuntu Linux with a LiveCD, and mounting the Windows drive from there. This will help prevent any spreading of "infection".

You need to stay out of windows entirely. Some type of live-cd or a boot-disk with an anti virus on it may still be able to salvage your comp. I know this was said before but I just want to make sure you try this before you reformat. It would save you a lot of hassle...

I've had experience with some pretty nasty virus's and malware in my days. The one tool that has never failed me thus far has been a piece of software called combofix. The only thing is today malware creators are getting smarter. So what you have to do is to rename the program before it ever touches your computer. So go and download it on another computer, rename it to something like "msword" or something and then put it on a flash drive. Run it from the flash drive and let the program work it's magic.

If you need help with this, send me a PM and if needed I'll give you my number and walk you through this. If I can't help I'm sure I can push you in the right direction.

Here is the link to combofix with a guide on how to use it. BUT DONT FORGET TO RENAME IT BEFORE PUTTING IT ON THE COMPUTER OR ELSE IT PROBABLY WONT RUN AT ALL.
