This thread is a memorial to dead, defunct, or bought-out companies.
It can also serve as a resting place for games that never came out, or were never finished.

And now, a moment of silence for a few of my favorite pals...

American Laser Games
Atari, Inc.

May you never be forgotten.

Ive heard of most of these, the names familiar to me are Sierra Games, Turtle Rock studios, Atari, and Vivendi games. And you forgot one that recently died, GRIN.

I think that the first computer game I ever played (back in 1984 yikes!) was a shooter made by Berkeley Systems.

RIP Bullfrog

Populous 3 was my first video game, and the others they made were just as fun

RIP Sierra

Good games, im pretty sure they made age of empires or empire earth or something

RIP Westwood

Command & Conquer. what else can I say? except maybe "KANE LIVES!" or "Peace through Power"...

Why you should know these companies:

Sanctuary Woods- Ripley's Believe It or Not!: The Riddle of Master Lu.

Sierra Entertainment- Too much to post.

Gotta add a few for Br?derbund,

Atari shouldn't be on that list.

Atari, Inc.
Fate: Closed, properties sold
Successor: Atari Corporation

Atari Games
Shut down by Midway Games

Atari Corporation.
Fate: Closed, properties sold
Successor: JTS Corporation (1996-1998), Atari Interactive (division of Hasbro Interactive) (1998-2001)

Interplay: Still Running.

At least they still make Command and Conquer games. As much as I don't like EA the new C&C games haven't been bad.

Westwood

Dudes, you rocked. Even before I was old enough to play C&C, you released that awesome "Lion King" game on my beloved Super Nintendo, my first console. Once I was a lil' older, my mother gave me Command & Conquer Gold for Christmas. Oh what a Christmas that was. Only a year later I got Red Alert for my birthday. What great gifts, and my mum even liked playing them with me, and she was damn good. :) Thank you for such great memories.

Bullfrog

Theme Hospital was the first management simulator I ever played, and I still love it to this day. Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2 are on my top 10 games of all time. While I am not familiar with the series, I can't deny the importance of Populous. You guys ruled.

Cyberdreams

Dark Seed was the first horror game I ever played, and with it I discovered H.R. Geiger, the greatest modern artist of all time. Dark Seed 2 was great as well. I have no mouth, and I must Scream was incredible. Thanks for the best "Mature" point 'n click adventures ever.

Sirtech
WIZARDRY!!!!!! WIZARDRY!!!!!!!!! WIZARDRRRRYYYYY!!!!

Black Isle Studios

Fallout 1 & 2. The greatest RPGs of all time. R.I.P. you computer gaming gods. Be proud your legacy is continued.

Looking Glass Studios

System Shock gave me nightmares when I was a kid. Maybe I should've listened to my mum and not snuck a copy on my 'puter when I was only 5 years old. It was awesome though. System Shock 2 was also awesome.

Lucas Arts

I know what you are thinking, "BUT LUCAS ARTS ISN'T DEAD, THEY'RE STILL MAKING GAMES!" Well, you are wrong. They are only producing/publishing games now. They decided a few years ago that they would never develop anymore inhouse games, and laid off all their development teams. Now they just license Star Wars and other Lucasfilm properties and produce/publish them. The original Lucas Arts, the guys that made such classics as Dark Forces, Tie Fighter, Sam & Max, Monkey Island, and of course, my all time favourite point 'n click adventure game, Full Throttle, are now gone.

Ion Storm

While we all know the tale of Daikatana, let us remember Ion Storms GOOD games: Deus Ex, the Thief trilogy, and the underrated classic, Anachronox.
