ok, anybody on here know anything about computer diagnostics? i'm having some major issues that a few people cant figure out.

if the computer is running its fine, once it restarts it shows the boot screen, i.e. f2 for boot, delete for whatever that button does. once it get past that, it freezes at a screen saying (invalid data pool) my computer tech figured it out as either a bad copy of windows or bad bios. well, flashed the bios, did the update for the bios, still does it, installed a new copy of windows, not the copy that came with the computer, a totally new version of windows. once installed, ran all day with shutting it off and everything, no problems, installing the updates for it, it restarts itself and the same problem. my tech is thinking that the motherboard has a problem. he's gonna change it out, but use everything else thats in the computer to narrow it down.

any input would be major help. no desktop means i can't play DOD and it sucks. lol

Ohh... Cryptic error messages are always fun...


Ask your Tech if he/she has some good RAM to temporarily swap with your computer. If that fixes the issue then you know it's the RAM. It would be much cheaper to buy some new RAM then a new motherboard.

actually, the first thing that came to mind..is once you installed a fresh copy of windows, "it ran all day without shutting it off"

then once you installed all the updates, the problem started.

i would reinstall windows, without the updates, and see if it reboots fine. If it does, then you know you have some sort of driver (or mb) issue with one of the updates.

What about trying Windows 7 for the driver support. Also what SP are you using because if it is driver related Microsoft should have fixed it by now.

I think it's failing hardware of sorts.

the harddrive is BRAND NEW. i had to replace it cause that crapped out also. the invalid data pool problem is a problem all by itself. my tech tried installing windows 7 and still having the same problem.

I disagree with that one. The rig I just replaced back in May (meaning I used it until May) had an Asus A8N-32 Sli Delux mortherboard.

SPC 3 of XP-Pro was incompatible with this motherboard (would not boot into windows). I had to wait (quite a while) until Asus released a bios update just for SPC3 before I could install it...it fell on Asus to fix the issue, not Microsoft.

Wow, I've never heard of a motherboard being incompatible with Windows... I guess there's a first for everything. Do you know why it didn't work?

This might help a little. Also, if you can boot in Vibrose mode that would be awesome cause it would log the error. Is there anything else you can add aside from it saying "Error Verifying DMI pool data"?

nope, thats all it says and it just hangs there till i manually push the power button to restart the machine, and again once it restarts it says verifying data pool and hangs up

RAM. That would be my first guess. Run a Memtest on it. Pull one stick and try starting it. Swap sticks, repeat. If more than two sticks are present, pull them all and try one at a time.

Do you overclock or anything?

Also, your HD might be fine, that doesn't mean the port. I've had this happen. If you have more than one SATA/IDE (whatever you use) swap ports.

So, swap ports and one stick of RAM.

Oh yeah, what make/model of HD is it?

Comes to find out, just for the hell of it my tech installed windows xp with SP3. works fine, no hang ups or anything. as we speak he installing my back up that i had. gotta love external HDD. now since that is said, anybody have any more ideas as to why this happened?

I have seen that message on occassion when the bios settings get corrupted. you said you flashed a new bios, so that should have fixed it, but some new bios' will keep the settings. I would reccommend pulling the cmos battery on the motherboard while it is unplugged and giving it a few seconds. When you start up the computer next, enter the bios and make any changes you need. You might try replacing the cmos battery also, as it could be causing some of your problems if its energy output is getting low.

Driver conflict then? Still strange. Windows updates can really suck. Depending on the update, my wife's computer will blue screen anywhere from once to six times after an update. Then it's fine.
