L4D wont start

So i just bought l4d a few days ago(i didnt wait till l4d2 cause i wanted to see if i liked it) and ever since this morning, when i click l4d to start, it says "Preparing to launch l4d..."
Then the box closes, my mouse gets the loading mouse thing for a few seconds, it says im in l4d for bout 5 seconds, then nothing. No l4d, just my desktop. I'm verifying the files now, ill edit if anything changes. Please help

What video card are you using? Your shader version might not be enough. I remember when i had my really bad computer and i tried to run BF2 and it would just not open.

Try updating your video card drivers as well. I found that an old version of my ATI drivers kept killing off Portal/TF2.

I did a huge update for my GPU and now I can play css with all settings on high, and prototype, my GPU(i think thats the video card) is a Nvidia Gefore 9300M GS. It was working a few hours ago, but now it doesnt. Also, K1nKy, none of those problems are related to mine

Silly question, but are you launching it from Steam or a desktop icon?

I've launched it from Steam and a desktop icon, even the icon from my RocketDock, still same result :|

Do you have a firewall or some other security running?

I feel you though. I can't run BF2, AA, Lost Colonies and a slew of others for no good reason. Short of a reinstall, I don't know what to do, but they all seem related to a common problem/issue. Good luck man!

Hmmm, I only have Spyware Doctor running, I'll try disabling it and seeing what that does.

For me, at least with BF2 (in the past, mind you) it was none other then Windows own firewall. Problem is, it would popup after the initial load, behind the the game and made it impossible to minimize the game so I could click it. Bright, real bright.

Why won't your pops hook you up?
