So, I notice a lot of people bring up Team Fortress Classic--a game I was not familiar with, as I came into PC gaming late in the current generation. So I ask you this, eGO:

Have you played Team Fortress Classic before playing Team Fortress 2?

I got it before TF2 just to see the idea of the game but when I got TF2 I fell in love ;)

TFC was so much better than CS for a LOOOONG time. Later I transitioned to CS as support and numbers dropped in TFC. Around the time CS source came out, I got back into MMO's and didn't touch another FPS until DoD source 2 years ago. The various HL mods and source based games have comprised the core of my FPS play for... 10 years?

yep played TFC before TF2 and QWTF before TFC i still think TFC is a much better game than TF2 but the community is kinda dead now.

A little? Dude, I was clanned, guilded, ladder ranked, scritped, modded, and beta-tested many a map. I gave up online games for a LONG time because of the timesuck TFC became. In fact I didn't multiplayer anything until TF2. I'd like to think I have my "problem" under control this time around.

I went by "Serra Angel" back then. Clans HPS & URF in STA & IGL ladders. Also played as "Grumpy" for Team Radicals in the WAKO tourneys. Regular on the PlanetFortress forums. TPF member. Legion of Fire (*LoF*) pyro guild charter member. Played in a few guild wars rounds, mainly against the hated Army of Engineers (AoE).

The WAKO tourney is something I think would fit well with eGO. 7v7 single elimination, last team standing. One round of play 20 minutes long. Class limit set to 1 for all classes; that means only 1 engy, 1 spy, 1 anything. Winner got to advance to the next round, loser went back to IRC and talked trash with all the other teams. Every Friday starting at 10pm EST and going until whenever. We used all non-standard maps like 2morfort & pipezone and it was a definitely "play for fun" event. Friendly fire was on and it was considered especially sporting for the defending engy to TK friendly flag runners and steal the cap :) Good times.

I only started playing TF2 about a year ago, when i first got the orange box.

I too played TFC back in the day. I remember those fine days of feigning death and poison and amazing back stabs with a knife that worked "Most of the time". I loved the game and am still amazed that it came out of the quake engine.....I never was a fan of quake, even though it did introduce class based play.

So, yes I did play -- I still do pretty regularly -- and will ALWAYS!

I entered through TF2. I tried to play TFC after TF2 came out because I didn't have a CPU that could run the game, but I was never hooked until I played TF2.

First time I even heard of tfc or tf2 is when I saw garden grove playing tf2 on steam during the beta.

Yup! Started playing TFC when the original half-life came out. good times! civilian class FTW!

i played Team Fortress while some of you were in diapers. before team fortress classic.

Nerd.

I played TFC right when it came out and became an admin on the Barge of the Dead servers. I then anxiously awaited the arrival of the TF2 that never came to be (the military style one).

Yes, I still play tfc quite frequently. But I only do conc maps. Anyone out there know what conc jumping is? there is still a dedicated group of about 20-25 people who still conc all the time, me being one of them :)

Here is a video of one of the best concers who still comes around:

I was never any good at conc-jump only maps. But I was good enough to rule on maps like flagrun. I could spawn, conc jump into the base, grab the flag, get out, and capture usually before the other side was organized.
