I need a headset with a mic.

Mine so far have been cheap, and when I adjust the mic or fiddle with them, they wear down and break.

However, when I search for gaming headsets, the prices are insane.

This is all I need:

One headset with adjustable/removable mic. Does not need to be USB. Does not need ultra-high tech speakers. Must be durable.

Price range- $20 to $40.

Any suggestions?

This is the head set my fiance and me use. I take good care off all my computer equipment and have had these for about a year now. The sound quality actually sounds better from these headsets then my 5 speaker system from Dell. Now I like my subwoofer better when it comes to bass but in modes of needing to keep sound from radiating these headsets are great. The ear pads clasp your ears but nothing to make you feel like your head is in a vice. Overtime the headset will shape to your head from usage which is nice. The pads are soft, it is made of a felvet like texture. The downside to the padding is it gets fuzz stuck to it but you can easily pick it off with your fingers.

Everyones usage of the word durable will come up different. If you throw any headset or do some sort of "anger movement" to them more then likely overtime you will break them. Just keep in mind no matter the cost and no matter how frustrated you may get to take the time and properly store your computer equipment to protect your investment.

well i personally just returned my $15 headset for a Creative Fatal1ty gaming headset, was on sale at my local store for $40, not sure what the original price in your area or wherever you shop would be.
However the reviews for it are amazing, and it really is great. it has virtual surround sound and the headset actually has tonnes of bass. comfortable, great mic...price range is just right

There's a $15 one on Turtle Beach that looks to be of high quality. Plus they sponsor us, so win-win if you buy one from them.

When my last headset broke I bought a logitech one at Best Buy that was only about $25. It's worked well enough. In fact here's a link to its page.

Link to Turtle Beach one? I can't find it on their page.

Durable means the wiring won't crap out after I flex the mic multiple times to situate it right.

I have the cheep $15 Logitec headset. I got it at wallyworld. I have been using it for about two years. Mic does not detach though, but it is bendable.

You can't really expect to get something for cheap and have any sort of quality out of it. If you're worried about it breaking then you're going to have to spend the extra 30-40 bucks to get a decent one. I have a Plantronics one. It was uncomfortable until I broke it in but it's great now. Got it at Best Buy.

+1 The Creative Fatal1ty is the headset I have been using for the past year-ish now. I have had no issues with it to far. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a headset.

P.S. I use the 3.5mm jack one, but there is also a USB version.

My advice: Save up the money and get a good headset. You wont regret it.

this is a great head set but only $10 more than you were looking to spend but shipping is free.

Great sound and are comfortable to wear for hours.

the microphone clips onto the headset wire and should something like your cat chew on it , a replacement is only $10.

There seems to be a few models available, not sure which to get...

I got this headset about a week ago. It is a little expensive coming in at $100, but it has superb microphone quality, and virtual 7.1 surround sound. Plus it has good bass.

As most other people are saying, its best yo save up and get something good, rather than getting something crappy every two months.
