I am thinking about Using the Evga Step Up program to upgrade my GTX285 2G to a GTX 295 Co Op. If i go through the step up i will get only have to pay $100 more with trading back the 285. Has anyone used this program EVGA offers.

And do you guys think its worth to buy a 295 for a hundred dollars more over the 285 2G?

I`d wait for maybe 40 days and see if the new Nvidia cards come out by then, if not go ahead only if you really need the performance.

The new nvidia cards will not be out by then. They won't be out until late November at the VERY earliest. It will probably end up being the second week of December is my guess.

So, now the questions are what games do you play, at what resolution, what CPU do you have, and do you fold?

Doh, your CPU is in your sig. At 1680x1050, a GTX 295 is not really necessary imo. If you have the money and want to spend it then go for it, however, the performance benefits probably won't be too noticable except for the numbers. If I were you I would probably save the $100 bucks, but I'm not you.

ya i think its a good call just to save the 100 bucks. You are right . i probably wont even notice the difference.

you would only see the difference in games like Crysis and Far Cry 2 or maybe even World In Conflict where even a card like the GTX 285 doesn't excel like a GTX 295 would or especially a 5870 now would.

In my opinion, $100 for an upgrade like that isn't a terrible deal, but unless you play those games, a GTX 285 should do you good till maybe the generation after the GTX 300 series come out.

I have an ATI 4850 and im not entirely happy about the performance im getting so im gonna go with the 5870x2 when it comes out the end of this month or early next month.

As for the GTX 300 series, i heard they won't be coming out till early 2010 atleast........never heard anything about them coming out anytime this year.

"Towards the end of 2009, Nvidia plans to launch three Fermi architecture based cards. The one that Nvidia talked about, is the high end single chip card and this one was said to to have 16 clusters and total of 512 shader cores. Let’s call this Fermi GTX.

The dual card will naturally have two of these cores and likely a bit less than 2x512 shader cores simply as it has to operate with a TDP of 300W or lower. Heat is a big enemy of semiconductors and once you get up to 3.1 billion transistors even with small 40nm gates, you still end up with a lot of heat. If we could come up with a codename for better understanding, it would be Fermi GX2.

The third card, something that we can call Fermi GT, will be a performance card, and it could be the new 8800GT.

This should be it for 2009 and in the first three months of 2010 we would expect the remaining members of Nvidia's Fermi DirectX 11 generation, including entry level and mainstream cards. Notebook stuff based on Fermi comes much later in 2010."

hmmm
why would they refer the third one to an 8800gt though?? shouldn't they refer it to something like a 9800gt or something like that
the names they are using seem to be old like the GX2 which resembles the 9800gx2 which was discontinued once the GTX 200 series came out

As for the dates, i wouldn't doubt it if they came out later this year, theres still very little information on them though sadly

well since i dont play crysis. the smart thing to do it to wait to the next generation of gpu's to come out.
