He would have to have to have 2 PCIE slots though and at least a 600W power supply to run them. Still the ATI 5850 is the best deal, or if possible, wait till more 5000 cards come out and get the 4870x2 cheap.

Please leave positive comments to help Tahoe. There is no need to argue which one is better, just offer your thoughts what you would use and not why your choice is better.

Depending on your set up, a 4870 or 4890 would both work for an ATi. For nVidia you could go with a 275, but again it depends on your setup because if your CPU isn't powerful enough then it would bottleneck your graphics card.

For Dual Core a 4850 would be fine and not be bottlenecked by your CPU, if you have a Tri/Quad core set up anything above a 4850 / 275 would easily keep you with a good FPS set up.

The new ATI's are amazing, look at the HD 5850 for around $250 and a HD 5870 for $380.
Just make sure you PSU can handle it, I recommend a good NAME BRAND 500W PSU for the 5850 and a 550 to 600W for the 5870.
