I was looking at itunes yesterday, and I saw the top 10 singles, I listened to the sample of each song, and by the end I was facepalming like crazy. Why is autotune, not playing instruments, and sampling other songs so popular now? What ever happened to the time when music ROCKED? I like a ton of modern rock like muse and others, but they never break into those top songs. At school dances they play absolute bullcrap, unlike in the 80's when they played styx at school dances. I'm not even that old, just a sophomore in high school.

Yeah, just had to rant a little bit. Share your thoughts if you want.

I. Love. You.

I've been telling this to people for the past few months, and they all look at me like I'm crazy. My favorite part is when you said "Why is autotune, not playing instruments, and sampling other songs so popular now?"

I can appreciate so many different kinds of music, but the stuff that's being played on the radio today, and the top hits are just plain terrible.

Music is an art. But the people that make these songs are no artists.

Yep... I agree that most music nowadays is depressing...

I noticed that every single song from the top10 list sounds exacly the same... if they didnt have the pop up thing saying it was another song I would notice no diference :(

You know you're getting old when the songs you like play on VH1 and not on MTV :chair:

As soon as miley cyrus got famous and Katy Perry autotuned her every song because she sucks at singing...then I realized music is going DOWN THE HILL currently. And that is why i strive to change that by making each new album of mine of REAL music :D

We need more of this:

Edit: Just my personal taste and also my way of saying that the AT40 is a sign of a serious lack in mainstream music.

That song was okay, but the video was awesome! There was so much symbolism in that video.

Then you get what I mean. We need more music with a message, music with a meaning. Rather than this shallow stuff that is so popular these days.

Kind of appropriate.

*Language warning on that*

Agreed, although I don't find the state of music to be the most important concern in the world :P

Currently, the only songs on my main playlist made after 1990 are by Weird Al (lol) - and even his old stuff was better. Not that there aren't some good new songs, but very few have decent actual music - even the rock doesn't roll.

Whenever I hear someone from a new band list one of their influences as an older band, I'm just like "UR DOIN' IT RONG"

Unfortunately, I know very little about the technical aspects of music, so don't expect me to explain exactly what I find wrong.

Also,

Or at least music that people think has a message, even if it means nothing (like most good old songs XD)

I know exactly what you mean. Nostalgia mode, GO!

agreed...

90% of the music in my playlists is 5+ yrs old and about 1/2 of that is 20+

also also I've always loved the Beatles and now everyones like "omg i love the Beatles I'm such a big fan" because of the new guitar hero or w/e and it makes me so sad /facepalm

I had some cancellations during my sales trip this week and watched a documentary on Woodstock and I was like wow...they don't make music like that anymore. Not that there hasn't been good music since then it just seems like theres never been a conflagration of talent like that since then.

Hopefully things will come full circle.

One reason like I like Rock, Metal, And other forms of it, Is the art work on albums.

Take a good look at a Rap, Pop, Or any of that "Music"'s album. Then compare to a metal bands. Which is better? A guy there, Just standing in a black background, Or this awesome artwork that is filled with detail.

Just my thoughts.

Mainstream is awful. I've never listened it.

There's no meaning in the lyrics, and the music is only the same drums and guitar all the time.
