Broken Mic

According to Chase, it sounds like I am driving a biplane while I talk. Thing is, im pretty sure its not the mic or the mic cord because when I first got it it was crystal clear.
Broken input socket: Wat do?

What would getting a new one achieve if the input jack is broken? I had one before and it had the exact same one. I dont know what mic, some Plantronics gaming headset.

Switch it to USB.

EDIT: Actually, test it on a friends computer first, to make sure it really is NOT the microphone that's broken. If the problem isn't on the other computer, but persists on yours, get that adapter.

There is a small chance that it could some problem with your sound card. Cheaper soundcards and some chipsets can actually pick up internal computer noise.

Not really likely, but it happens.
