One rule for not losing BlackMesa?

A BlackMesa question for ya...

Is the Cap-timer on the A point too fast?

After a million hours playing BlackMesa I can confidently list one rule for not losing:
Keep the A-point under control and you will never lose.
A team could keep half its players down on A, ignore (B-K) points, and not worry much about (C-L) and still not lose the round. That may sound obvious or simplistic but rounds end quickly all the time because A then (C or L) get locked up.

"Not losing" does not equal "winning". But I think your chances of winning are greatly increased if you never let the other team get or keep A for more than a few seconds.
The rounds that go on the longest are the ones in which both teams remain determined to keep A, and doing that is not very hard regardless of who is playing.

Dragonhill, if you are reading, I love BM and would be happy if it never changed and never went away!

Good Job you found out that in all the 5 cap maps if you control the middle point you usually win!

I do agree that A caps a bit faster than it should. In my opinion it should cap as slow as other points, but decaptures at a very slow rate because right now the best "save L/C" method is to just cap A since it's faster.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The A cap timer is fast, but that point is so exposed and threats can come from literally every direction so that perfectly compensates for the cap timer being fast.

rules to not lose on blackmesa

#1 have galkafisher in your team -> your vents arent sentry mobed, neither some heavy+medic duo camps your spawn

#2 dont suck

#3 your team doesnt suck

#4 play gravelpit

saying to protect mid point is all well and good.. getting your team to do it is a whole different story

the middle point caps too fast and the last points caps too slow on blackmesa. couple this with the spawns being so close to the final point and you have stalemate central ala warpath. Look at all the other 5 CP push maps like badlands, well, granary, & fastlane. The middle point takes the longest to cap and the last one goes quickly. this allows a single game to progress to completion in under 3 hours. if you ever want to actually finish a round on BM what you end up doing is engaging in the 2nd favorite pastime on the server, spawn camping. sit a heavy medic combo right outside their spawn so your teammates can actually stay on the last point for the 5 minutes it takes to capture it.
if the capture times were reversed, the problem of the stalemate rounds would largely disappear imo.

BabyJam I know you agree because yesterday, I think you killed me 500 times while I was trying to cap A and you were protecting it.

This.

That being said, I think its more of an issue of getting the whole team to actually cooperate and coordinate. Keeping A capped and guarded definitely helps keep you from losing.

Point A is so exposed though, that it is hard to effectively defend when the other team steamrolls rolls your 2 or 3 guys with their 5 or 6. I think that is the whole point. All of the points on Mesa have multiple access points. This means that you need actual teamwork to win. Sadly, you do not normally see mass cooperation in public servers.

P.S. Dragon if you read this, I LOVE the map just how it is :) and there are nearly 200 more people in the addicted to Blackmesa steam group that agree!

Guess i get to dump my thoughts here

any team can win bm if they stick together and just push hard.. now "if" they are not fast enough the other tactic is.. cap a point, then 1/2 defend it, other 1/2 grab next point..wash rinse repeat.

the issue of A being too fast is not really an issue. the map was timed to not be a valve map..it's that simple.

the map favors the bold teams..yes, campers can get a few extra kills in but they do not help "win" the match. only bold players win. take some chances..the map helps you. And yes, some would say this allows for "lucky" players. But then again, getting lucky can be fun.

Thats pretty much all I do when I play, is protect the mid-point. Definitely the key to winning.

key to winning blackmesa:
1) same team as Buga
2) pocket Medic
3) Dominate
4) rinse and repeat

I want to thank you for not making it be a "valve" map. I personally feel that a lot of their maps play the same even if they are laid out different and have different scenery. You still tend to get a similar overall playing experience.

Well...Shouldnt the middle point always be captured the fastest? Also...Lmao Adam
