Hey,

Since today my screen starts freezing if i play CSS, But this cant be anything @ overheating because i have a big vent cooling it something like this: Clicky :-).
But still, if i dont play anything i can be @ my pc as long as i want to, so its in the game i only tried CSS till now but its there so, doesn somebody know a solution to this?

How long playing CS:S until your computer freezes? Are you sure that your video card's heatsink/fan isn't clogged with dust?

Euhm sometimes like 5 min and sometimes it takes 1 hour, its no dust i cleaned my pc last weekend.

Can you do control-alt-delete or anything when your screen freezes, or does everything stop responding? If you have to restart after this happens, does anything come up when you restart?

I've had a similar problem like this, I could play for hours sometimes and sometimes for minutes... I replaced my GPU and the problem was fixed so it was a bad GPU.... And I would guess the same here.

Well the screen freezes and all sorta strange colors appear :o

well didnt have it before it started today.. :<

That does sound like what -Jv- said, I've seen very similar behavior in cards that have gone bad before - with the funky colors appearing, it could be the video card processor or RAM. It still could be something else wrong with your computer, with what you're describing, I'm definitely leaning towards video card.

Do you have another that you can test in your computer for a while?

another thing that could happen is your power supply isnt givin your pc enuf power... could be too many things plugged into the same curcuit, or just not a big enuf power supply to handle a high graphics game, .. maybe try turning lights/tv or anything else needless running in the room.

Try another game for a while and see if you get the same problem.
If you do it's most likely a hardware problem.
If you don't then it might just be an issue with CS:S.

If it is a hardware problem, we can help a lot more if you post your computer specs.
Also, have you done anything recently to your computer that may have triggered this?

1gig of RAM? ... might be your problem right there

Well no, recommended for CSS is 512 MB ram, and i'm running CSS for a very long time on 1GB so that shouldn't be a problem since the rest of my programs are running fine.

I rest my case, I say your GPU is gone haywire :( I had exactly the same like you described. I've sent a mail about it to nVidia and they said I should return it to the shop in waranty. So I'd recommend you do the same. Also, if you're in-game do you get artifacts (These can be random dots, flashes, ...) ? If so I'm 100% sure.

Try putting your game in window-mode. I used to get this and would have to hold down the power button and turn off my laptop. This isn't good for your system.

So if it's windowed, you can bring up the task manager easier. It still happens to me sometimes, but not often.

def a good idea

I have the same problem and I have had this freezing problem for as long as I can remember. People have told me it was a heating issue and to take the side panel off the computer. I did that, same problem. I have 2 GB of ram. I have a new video card and a new power supply. I still have the same problem and it is random and unpredictable. Only happens in CSS, and when it does happen it seems like it happens less than an hour after playing. If it does not freeze and a hour goes by then I can play 10 + hours straight and no problems. I don't understand it, I just deal with it and reboot my computer when ever it happens.

I can play Neotokyo, tf2, dawn of war, cs, or any other game and I have never had a freezing issue with the same computer. In my opinion, I think its css that is causing the problem. don't know how to fix it though :\
