4890 1 gig or 4870 2 Gig

1- The new 5770 that was just released is almost 50$ cheaper than the 4870 and gives more preformance
2- If you could spend like 50-70$ more grab a 5850
 
nevermind. i don't want a 5000 series because tey're 128 bit.
 
5850, who cares if it is 128-bit, it smokes the competition at a much lower price.
 
i don't understand why people complain if the 5850 is 128-bit when its beating like a GTX 285 which is almost 512-bit..........like does it matter?? as long as the performance is there, wat will the bit matter

As for which card to get.........i say get a 5850 if you can, if you can't........then get the 4890 1gb, no matter how much memory it has, the 4890 is still a faster card than a 4870 and even a 2gb 4870 won't change that........if you want newer tech but a card that is cheaper but a bit slower, the 5770 is like 10 FPS behind the 4890 or maybe more but it starts at a lower price i believe
 
I am running a 4870 x2 with 2 gig of ram and have yet to find any games or process that even come close to causing me to slow down so I say the 4870 :)

4870x2 is a lotttt different from a single 4870 buddy.........the drop in performance is a lot
 
I would say go with the 4890 as it is a faster card then the 4870.

Also, for everyone saying "get a 5850," please read the opening post. He asked which of the 2 cards he should get.

With electronics you can always spend just a little more to get some more performance. It's a slippery slope, and people have to draw the line somewhere. The 5000 series cards are brand new meaning that the 4000 series have dropped in price. I would say the 4890 is a very good card in the performance/price department right now.

That's why I said 4890, or as an alternative look at the 5850. :)

Answered the question and tried to suggest something else that he may not have known about.

We know wat he said in the opening post......we said that if he could, to get a 5850.....yes the ATI 5000 series may be driving the 4000 series down but it hasn't yet atleast, not from what i've seen and plus, its not exactly the best thing to do by investing in old technology. Especially if the 5850 and new 5 series is so much faster than the previous 4 series.

Otherwise, as most of us has said before, if you can't get a 5850, get a 4890 or a 5770 if you wanna invest in new tech but at a cheaper price.
 
I'll just back what most people have said.
Get the 4890 1 gig. I've got one in my new rig, love it.
