4890 1 gig or 4870 2 Gig

i say 4890 i'm running a 4850 1gig and it's smokin' so i imagine the better gpu will be even more kickin'
 
his objection to the 5850 had to do with it being 128-bit. If you don't want to pay for the 5850, that's a different ball of wax, but don't exclude it because it is 128-bit.
 
I have an ASUS EAH4890 that i got from newegg and i frickn love it, i say 4890 def. the prices are coming down since the new 5xxx series came out
 
the 5850 was put up against the nvidia gtx 295, they scored almost the same in everything but the 295 was ahead just a tad.. and the nvidia card is like having 2 gpus in 1 so its almost like running sli with 1 card... so alot of peeps r sayin the ati card since it does almost as good with less power draw.. but others say if u got double 295's(gonna need a really big power supply) your performance would be off the charts.

yes that is true, 2xGTX 295 performance is fast...........the 5850 doesn't really compare to the GTX 295 anyway, it compares more to the GTX 285 and beats it most of the time. The ATI 5870 compares to the GTX 295 and comes very close in almost all games it loses to it or the card beats the GTX 295.
The performance is amazing for a single chip card and that is why when the 5850x2 and 5870x2 come out, their performance will be off the chart. Imagine putting 2x5870x2, i think you'd easily get 60 FPS or more in Crysis and every game out their will be like 90 FPS or above....no game would be unplayable, even with a single 5870x2 no game would be unplayable pretty much, id like to see a single 5870x2 get an avg FPS of 60 FPS possibly but i doubt it, it will come close though, im guessing like 50 something FPS

only the 57xx series is 128-bit
the 58xx series is 256-bit and beats (for the most part) 512-bit and 896-bit nVidia cards.
 
I couldn't afford a 5850, I got the 4890 sapphire because it's a good price for my money and I don't know much about what 128 or 256 bit even means.. and it's a good card and i'm sure it'll run Modern Warfare 2 good. the 5750 had just about the same specs as the 4890 so I got it because of the big fan etc.

In my knowlegde the RAM only helps if you have a large screen and will most likely only help you in the FPS if you have a large monitor, so i would go with a 5000 series card.
 
The 5770's are 256 bit. You'd be getting your moneys worth by getting a DX11 card.

wrong a 5770 is actually 128-bit.

As for Jnyc, its fine, a 4890 isn't a bad choice at all, its still a very fast card. It beats the 5770 by a good margin and the 4890 is a good overclocker so that should increase ur speed by a good margin.
 
OP: you made a good decision on sound reasoning, that can't disappoint. Just didn't want you to pass on a superior card because it was 128-bit! If the 5850 was over your price range, than you got another great card at a great price in the 4890!

newegg begs to differ............showing all the 5770 as 128-bit

Compusa is wrong........even the review sites say that it is 128-bit

Yes, I'm using two 24" monitors, that was kind of my worry
 
if you're going to upgrade, you might as well upgrade to what the future holds, which is going to be dx11, instead of buying a 4870-90 now then getting a 5000 series card when you want to play dx11 games, just get the 5000 series now
