Recently I gave blood for the first time and it's really a wonderful thing to do to potentially save lives.

I know we've got a lot of younger members, but I'd like to know how many of you have and have not. You must be 17 or older to donate.

If you guys are interested in donating blood, check out GiveLife.com, which is a site made by the American Red Cross to locate blood drives in your area.

If you haven't given blood but qualify, why havent you?
If you have, what was your experience like? What blood type are you?

As for me, I'm A Positive (A+), which is pretty common.

Hmmm... too young, and my blood is "Z*" only one person in the whole world has it... i wonder who it is... *ponders*

O+
i have donated approximately 2 gallons (give or take)
i try to donate every 8 weeks, when i'm healthy, and i can find a station

I've been giving blood since I was 18. Recently I started with plasma donations too.
My blood type is AB positive (AB+), not that common.

I have O Positive so my blood would be loved. But my fear of needles, due to a doctor who really didn't know how to take blood samples taking no less than ten in a day from me which is no doubt the most painful and tiring experience I have ever had, would cause me to flail and probably wind up forcing someone else to give blood after I cracked their skull open.

So I respect those who do give blood, but I could NEVER do it.

I donate every chance that I get - it's nice being able to help people in such a capacity with little to no effort on my part :). They have a bloodmobile in my area that drives around and sets up various places so that people can donate, it's pretty cool.

Plus, as Ducttape mentioned, they have cookies! :P

I havent because noones ever really gotten me into it + i dont like needles.
I guess i could try it, but i doubt anyone wants my blood.

I am B+ and was donating at work till I started working on my tattoos again. Not sure how other places are, but here in IL you have to wait 12 months after getting a tattoo to give blood. And I still have a sleeve and a half to go so I wont be able to donate for a few years.

Cookies? Wow, I got screwed. They gave me pretzels.

They DO want your blood, as long as it is disease-free!

i should donate blood, i love cookies and juice and you get as much as you want. i've donated before and almost passed out afterward.

you guys are lame, I got CAKE when i donated! oh, and I'm O+ - that means that if ANY of you need blood, I can donate to you....

I'm under age, and I don't think I could handle it when I come of age either.

I. Hate. Needles.
go figure that YOU wouldn't take an interest in someone else's life beyond your own dislikes

in texas you can give blood pretty much immediately after having a tatoo as long as it is from a place that is certified by the state board of health (which every commercial place would have to be)
EDIT: actually you might be mistaken, have you actually asked them if you could donate? because what you have just said, seems that way in texas too, cuz they ask "Have you gotten a tattoo in the last 12 months?" i always say yes (when its true) and i just tell them the name of the place i got it, and they let me give blood
