Gonna buy a heat sink soon, and I'm debating over which one to get. My two choices have been narrowed down to the:

Corsair H50

and

Cooler Master V8

I've heard the V8's not that great, but I'm basing my thoughts on it on benchmarks from Frostytech.

Anywho, what should I get? Maybe any other heat sinks in mind?
(It's for a Phenom II 940 BE, in a CM Storm Scout case, and I'm not an overclocker)

Yea the V8 isn't a great CPU cooler. It gets beaten by many cooler cheaper than it, mostly the design is called HDT or heatpipe direct touch. They are taking the CPU cooler market by storm and they work very well if you want a cheap CPU cooler that drops temps amazingly for an air cooler. Im actually using one, a OCZ Vendetta 2, got my Q6600 quad-core from 2.4ghz to 3.65 ghz

The current king of air coolers is the Cooler Master V10 i believe, that thing is crazy, its massive but i believe it also cools the memory RAM. If you have the money, get one of those. Otherwise get a heat-pipe direct touch CPU cooler like a Scythe Mugen II or OCZ Vendetta II. Or you could get that Corsair water cooler ur looking at. Im not familiar with water cooling but i believe u need a radiator and stuff like that in addition.

I would looove to get the V10, but it's too much cash unfortunately. I'll take a look at the Mugen and Vendetta though.

Also, the Corsair cooler is a closed liquid cooling system. That is the complete system. The pump and reservoir are inside the base, and the radiator mounts where your rear case fan goes. The tubes are metal covered in plastic so the liquid doesn't evaporate so you never have to refill or worry about oxygen bubbles. That's why I like it, sounds pretty good.

P.S. ~ I have Corsair Dominators, so I'm a little unsure if I'll have enough room to mount a huge heat sink without bumping into the RAM.

I am currently running the v8 it is amazing keeps my i7 real cool and yes i love my i7 and the rig i built hopefully i will be sli-ing my 2gb vga

-edit- the only thing about the coolmaster it is hard to install because it is so big and make sure you have enough room in the case for the coolmaster . That was my proble i had a 120 mm fan and my coolmaster got in the way so i had to take it off.

Oh don't worry about it, I have plenty of space, and the hole in behind the cpu area on the case to install heatsinks without removing the mobo. That's not bothering me.

Out of those two, the Corsair H50.

But I'd take Prolimatech Megahalems over anything else.

Btw, the V8 sucks. And the V10 is just stupid.

Again, I bring up my fear of buying one and not being able to use it because of the Dominator fins.

I say from your situation and options.......get the Corsair. That really is neat that you don't have to refill it or anything, seems nice. Its kinda of like those Coolit systems or watever and the GTX 295 h2oc that doesn't need to be refilled or maintained or anything.
Water-cooling will give some better performance anyway and even though i doubt ur Dominators will get in the way unless ur using like a M-ATX mobo then you should be fine.
Get the water-cooling corsair though, it seems good...ill read some reviews on it since im intrigued by it.

Edit:
I read a review, you should take a look at it to see the performance the Corsair H50 gives and such.
Im amazed my OCZ Vendetta II performance comes so close to the H50 as for me i get a bit higher temps than the ones in the benchmarks.

Y'know, I hadn't read that review yet, I guess I'll go with the H50. When I get it, I'll let you know how it goes. (I'll probably be ordering it next month)

And thanks for the help, I was on and off about the V8 and the Megahelm and whatnot...

V8 and V10 are both dumb. Im using the Mugen II right now and i love it to bits. But go for the water cooling.

hold up......you might wanna take a look at the CoolIt Domino ALC water cooler. The technology is similar to the Corsair one but from previous knowledge. I believe CoolIt system were the first to use this kind of tech where you don't need to refill or maintain the water cooler. They have even implemented it in a retail GPU.

Edit:
Disregard this the Corsair H50 is a better performer and more reliable/better quality

If you're not an overclocker, why bother with an aftermarket CPU cooler?

yea wow.....i completely overlooked that fact. I guess i just read the first couple lines of his first post and figured i'd tell him which was better.

Just to let you know though, the Corsair H50 doesn't come with AMD brackets i don't believe. I think they say you need to call corsair or something and ask for them, but you need to pay a small fee.
"Brackets for AMD socket AM2 and AM3 motherboards are available for a nominal shipping and handling charge by contacting Corsair Technical Support."

Also disregard my last post about the Coolit Domino........after reading some more reviews and tests, the Corsair H50 is better in every aspect of performance and quality.

If you're not over clocking, might as well stick with air. Then you will never have to worry about leaks...

... I am still on the "will never put water in my computer case" boat...

I'm looking into after market coolers because my cpu is around 50 idle and gets to 61 on load. I feel it shouldn't be that high. And regarding water cooling, I move my case around a lot, going to lans and whatnot. I've always feared i tug the case the wrong way and one of those giant air coolers are gonna snap my mobo like a cookie.

Hmm...maybe after I get the cooler I might overclock a little, I'll see...

Dont worry.......you won't kill your CPU as long as you know somewhat wat your doing and you run stability tests like OCCT, Prime95, SuperPI The real simple and easy way for beginners is just upping the Vcore and the FSB to achieve your overclock. You can always search google for some OC specs of your CPU also, there are tons of them out there, they give general references as each CPU is different but generally they should work.

Just install some sort of ice dispenser on your rig to cool down your central processing unit.

It's been done before rly.

Hey don't do an all in one water cooling system forsure. I used the Hyper N CM Heatsink for almost a year and was still able to get to go 4GHz

This was of course before I went full water cooling, but this is the V8 without the cool "sideburns" and it works just aswell. Now water cooler is so much better, besides the DAMN all in ONES!!!
