Shadow's Tech Support

hey guys, i just recently bought a new 9800 GTX+ video graphx card from EVGA...

which i installed into my computer w/ the drivers and all...

however, when i run TF2 or i think any other game (havent tested this) MY COMPUTER would suddenly turn off.

completely off w/o any power w/o any bios msg or blue screen of death.

for guidance i went to my tech savvy teacher @ my school and he suggested increase my RAM (i have 1 GB Ram DDR2, 2 512MB RAM DDR2, and 1 2GB DDR2[which was recently added])

i honestly do not know what happened to my computer or what not, and for the card, i plugged into the optional power supply connection to the vid card.

other than the fact that my cpu processor seems a lil warm along w/ my video card, i dont really think anything overheated....

lots of steam w/ my current computer problem, and i hope you all know how to release the Valve :P

A 9800GTX+ only needs 28 amps, and you have 32 which is cutting it very close.

You could try this. Download EVGA Precision and downclock the GPU's core and memory frequency to about 50mhz lower than what it's set at by default. This will use a little less power. Be sure to pump up the fan speed a little when you play too.

thanks shadow for the compliment on my choice of PSU,

but thanks for giving the same exact advice given to 2 of my other friends at school.

having people that do not know each other and yet say the same answer is very assuring :D

Ive got this problem---> Right here and seems a couple other eGO members have it as well, I was wondering if you guys could help me out with it.

Here are my comp specs and its a brand new overhaul on my comp so nothing should be outdated (like drivers and such, I had windows 7 installed for me where they built my comp and they updated all drivers for me). :

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ 3.00 GHz
5.00 GB of RAM
windows 7 64 bit
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS graphics card

I disabled the steam cloud and the problem was not fixed, and as of right now I have not joined a game but I just finished validating the game files and it just finished defragmenting the game files. I eagerly await any other questions you guys have for me as well as any solutions you may have. Thanks guys in advance and I hope you can help me so that I may refer others who are having this problem to this solution.

Over time, my CS:S has been randomly crashing after about 10-60 minutes of being in the game. But, the odd thing is, it only really ever happens on eGO servers. I recently updated my drivers, and there are no errors with my Computer that I know of.
If you need specs, I'll post them/edit this post.

Atm the moment im having some fps issues. I am running a 9800 gtx+ and i cant play mw2 on medium and its manageable on low but ive seen vids of people playing games like crysis on high X16 AA i cant even think about trying that what is the difference between theirs and mine does ram affect fps that much im running 4gigs of ram and a 5200 intel processor.

Old pic but the same i believe http://i45.tinypic.com/2jch6z5.png

Your ram wont affect FPS (4 gig is plenty for any game out there). MW2 is more GPU than CPU but it could be your CPU that is ultimately causing the issue . you mention people playing Crysis on high... do you know what kind of hw they are running (same GPU or CPU as your rig, maybe)

Well thats what i wanted to know if my cpu is whats causing my framerate issue its a e5200 oc'ed to 3.2ghz atm. I jsut wanted to know what would be the best upgrade for me it sounds like its a cpu atm

Hey guys, sorry I've been absent for so long. I'll hopefully be reviving this here in the coming weeks. Work has me so damn busy I barely have time to do anything else.

Anyways, I'll be updating the server to the newest version, and all that good stuff here when I get time.

Hope to see you all soon.

If its OC'd to 3.2 (from 2.5) then CPU may not be the whole issue and it may be combo GPU/CPU causing the low framerates. dont get me wrong, if you upgrade to a quad core, you will get better frame rates but then you will be limited by your GPU. If you want a GPU that will max MW2, i had a 250 somthing(cant remember if it was GT or GS...) and that was able to max out MW2. That card was pretty cheap (~120 dollars) a year ago so its pry much cheaper now or you could get a better card for a few bucks more. Sorry for the wall of text, just some food for thought.

Finally got everything updated and back online. I'm headed to bed now, but I'll be online tomorrow to help out anyone who needs it.
