Ok well I recently downloaded the program Virtual Box and I used to use VMware before, so I'm not very used to it. When I start up my virtual machine that is running Win XP Pro it's fine, works well. That's all fine and nice if you want to have a window of it and not have it integrated into your main OS. When I click "Machine" and try to go to seamless mode it's grayed on and thats the problem, so if anyone know how to fix this please do tell.

~Thanks

PS I'm using Windows 7 as my main os.

Which edition of Windows 7 do you have? Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate come with a free Virtual XP which is amazing. I've never personally used Virtual Box before, but you should give Windows Virtual PC a try.

Virtual PC doesn't have seamless mode and I'm running windows xp in the virtual machine, it just has a skin. But out of the virtual box my OS is Windows 7 RC

What exactly is seamless mode? If you maximize Virtual PC it goes full screen and it appears like you're running only that OS if that's what you mean?

did you install guest additions on the guest os yet

once you get the os on you need to go to install gues additions from the machine menu guest additions allow for seamless mode, mouse integration and copy and past.

no VB's seamless takes that a step farther it makes it so you olny see the taskbar and open windows of the guest OS which makes it really nice and "seamless" to work with more than 1 os.

OK I got it but when I press it to install nothing happens...

when you hit install on guest additions you should see something comeup on the cd drive in the guest OS that has the guest additions installer on it so just launch the installer and do what it says and restart the guest os and seamless should work and things will be a lot smoother

If 'seamless mode' means that when you want to run your XP programs, they run on your Windows 7 desktop, not the virtual machine desktop; then you are incorrect. Why you might ask? ->

Windows 7's XP Mode does this. And This.

Windows 7 Virtual Machine and XP Mode Download Link

The XP mode installation explains how to run a program (that is based in your xp mode) on your Windows 7 desktop.

Not sure if you want to use the Microsoft version, but I've had success with the Windows XP Mode, and I have been pleased with it.

No by seamless I mean having the xp bar beside the windows 7 bar, I use xp mode but it really is very limited in what you can do and btw bullets I will check that out, thanks.

I see what you're getting at, and I apologize if I sounded harsh; I didn't understand what you meant by 'seamless.'

I'm just curious, what do you use the virtual box for? I don't mean to invade your privacy.

Oh invade what privacy, I was on my iPod Touch typing that so I had to use as little words as possible. If anything I'm sorry if it sounded hard :)

And ya I was thinking of running a server off it but I don't have the right ammout of ram so I will just use it to run some old games.

ya AJC if you have anymore questions around VB just ask iv been useing it since it was fairly new cause i do a lot of software testing and some devloping so im pretty familier with VB and vmware

i think i have something like 20 different operating systems on my computer between the tri boot and my virtual machines.
