Anyone here using ubuntu? If you are can you please share if setting it up was difficult, like writing all the kernels for drivers and stuff like that. And how long did it take before it was 100% ready to use like access the internet and listen to music etc... Thanks

It was a nightmare for me lol, 'cause I installed it on my Laptop, the wireless nor Ethernet port got me any internet 
I'm sure it just had to do with my laptop. I'd dual boot it on my desktop now but I don't have too much space to spare, plus no use for it xD.
I tried the copying of the driver.inf or w/e files they were and still did not work.
basically, I never got it to work after like 10 installs and opening up 20 Firefox tabs all at once, every single help page sent me to another page...
But again, it was probably just me and my crappy laptop >_> Was an HP Pavilion DV7( or maybe a 8 or 0, I forgot lol, sold it)

Ubuntu is probably one of the most user-friendly distros I've ever installed. Most of the time you will be downloading from a software repository through the Package Manager, which is very fast and easy once you get the hang of it. What you need to research is using the Package Manager (I've included a link below) and familiarizing yourself with the terminal and the variety of commands you will run into when installing programs.

Ubuntu is The Best Linux Flavor to date. "Personal Opinion" the help community is Superb, the Ease of use and easy Wifi Setup & Networking is great.
You don't have to know a lot of command line to get this working great its all easily setup via GUI but hey what would linux be without command line always try to learn that and here is a great link to help you there.

The latest version of Ubuntu is also nice if you want to Dual boot. You just place the CD with Windows running and it will ask you if you want to totally format your PC or Install as a Windows Application & all you have to do is Designate an amount of disk space to use for Ubuntu. Usually around 2gb - 4gb at least. ( is what i use) I have got my Gaming PC dual booting with Ubuntu & windows with the above setup option.
I've ran with the likes of Red Hat, Suse, Free BSD, Slackware, Ubuntu, & many more. Out of all of them I have had formal training in Red Hat. (which was a great help for command line) but When Ubuntu Came I was like WOW where have you been all my life.
If your still a little skeptical Just run Ubuntu Live CD via the installer CD just boot up your PC with the CD in the drive and Play with it. See if it installs Your wireless, Ethernet, & any other device you may have interest in using. Now Gaming is Very Awesome on a Ubuntu box. If your going to want to do it the "Free" way (which is usually the best for the $) It can be very fun and Challenging to setup via "wine". But hey there is Tutorials on that as well. Due to the Ubuntu Community is Vast & has tons of gamers.
Hope this helps in your decision I currently run a Server Ubuntu & it houses all of our Home Data, Backup Solutions. it runs Non stop and Never has to be rebooted. Its been up for 2 years solid. At the college I work as Network Administrator We run 4 Ubuntu Servers as a Proxy & Content Filtering Servers. They are great.

I'm planning on using it as a main OS on my laptop which i do mostly school work on and browse the web, the specs are CPU Type - Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4G
Memory Size - 4G
Hard Disk - 320GB
Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce GT 120M.
So im assuming ubuntu will be crazy fast when i do everything the right way, tell me if im wrong.

It will be Awesome. Plus it already pre installs Open Office so its perfect for School work If you install wine you can also install MS Office via that.
Just put the CD in and boot it up on your laptop and see how it runs via the live CD. If i had that laptop I would definitely Be either running it or dual booting it.
I dual boot my work laptop with XP & Ubuntu. The only reason I don't have Ubuntu 100% is due to The Tracking Software that is required to be on it to Track the PC where it is at all times so if it gets stolen its tracked.

ya a laptop with that specs will run it just fine and it will be pretty snapp.
@eliteone i olny really consider ubuntu the good as far as beginers i mainily work with openSuSE and SLED and tried just about every other distro and am still on and loveing the SuSE based distros.

Works fine for me right after installing.
