Modern Warfare 2 - We Need Your Help!

<div style="width: 500px; text-align: center" align="center">The Call of Duty Division is asking for your help.

Saturday morning, the community manager for Infinity Ward dropped a bomb on the Call of Duty community during a podcast interview on BashandSlash.com stating there would be NO DEDICATED SERVERS and NO MOD SUPPORT in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Instead, you will be connected using an IW.net matchmaking system much like consoles use, essentially making everyone use each other as listen servers.
What this means for us is no dedicated server, no admins, no custom maps, essentially no community - basically everything that makes eGO great.

I am in awe of the lack of support for our favorite form of gaming.
If we want to play first person shooters on consoles, we would buy a console.

This is an outrage, and I am asking two things of people:

1. Click here to sign the petition.
It may or may not help, but it can't hurt to try.

2. If you have pre-ordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, cancel it.
The one thing that might persuade Infinity Ward is money. As they say, "Money talks."

This is a great community, and we have tons of players. Let's see if we can get the folks at Infinity Ward to change their minds.

Even if you don't play Call of Duty, imagine if this were to happen to your favorite game or possibly the next itteration of your favorite, i.e., TF2, DoD:S or CS:S. Can you imagine your game without dedicated servers?

We had high hopes for this as a new addition to eGO.
Unless me make an impact now, this is the future of PC gaming.

I signed yesterday and I really am surprised by IW's decision on this. I was going to buy MW2, but with no dedicated servers I don't see a need to buy it.

Matchmaking is inferior to dedicated servers in EVERY way and it all comes down to freedom. Consolers like it because they've never had it any other way. Matchmaking was NEVER designed with the gamer in mind. It is a way for console manufactures to control the online experience and make more money. IW is trying to say that matchmaking is for the benefit of that gamer and it's absolutely insane that some people actually believe it! And instead of giving consoles more freedom to use dedicated servers, they're taking away the freedom that the PC experience offered...

Oh and to the people saying that L4D matchingmaking is great... Are you serious!?!?! Anyone who has played L4D for longer than a week knows that matchmaking is the ONE thing that SUCKS about L4D. You have to return to the lobby 10 times in order to find a server with decent ping, you end up with people who grief or ragequit or act like idiots, the list goes on...Can you imagine how much better L4D would be if there were dedicated servers?

I had 8 servers. also. i was going to ask admins of eGO about maybe using my servers for eGO instead of wasting your own money, this just really makes me mad.:glare:

I really can't believe this, just talking about it with a friend on how greats its going to be to play with everyone in the clan! Don't understand why they would go away from things that, at least from my point of view, worked in the last version. Time to say some prayers and hope they change their mind.

Here, I'll just post my entire opinion on the matter for all to see.

I think what they?re really trying to do with this move is eliminate the piracy and anyone being able to run pirate enabled dedicated servers above anything else. Basically, it comes down to what all retarded game dev moves come down to, greed. even though they made more money than god on the last one and stood to make twice that much with this one, they couldn?t bare the thought of anyone playing this game without paying for it, so they decided to just merc the entire PC community. For all we know, they?re probably hoping this gives them the excuse to discontinue development for the PC altogether. Then they can just concentrate on those big console bucks and the giant, sellout inducing kickbacks they provide.

Hey IW, you guys want to be creative with your property, that?s fine but I suggest when it comes to something like this that you ask your base what they want before you just build it and tell us later.

Right now they?re telling us that it can?t and won?t be changed, that it would under mind what they?ve built into the game. I heard those exact words from EA about using the face buttons for Fight Night Round 4. After the sales crapped out, they patched it anyways.

The lesson is this, it doesn?t matter how clever or innovative you guys at IW think you are, if the game won?t sell because of it, don?t freakin do it, period.

Fourzerotwo is probably in a meeting trying to figure out what else to say that won?t fan the already hellfire of damnation. 420, I suggest you hide under the bed and stick your fingers in your ears and hum because unless your next statement is that IW is reinstating dedicated servers, this fire has just begun to rage.
