Hey guys ! Looking to do a little video editing of some family movies. Just wondering which is the best for a beginner. When I did a google this is the software that came up the best CyberLink Power Director 8 Deluxe. Recommendations, ideas or opinions are all welcomed ! :)

I like Sony Vegas. I also heard that Adobe's is good as well. I forgot what's called. Adobe Premiere I think?

ya i like sony vegas too, pretty easy, lots of features

Final Cut and Premiere are the 2 best as well as avid

Sony vegas Is sow good. I use it too. http://www.youtube.com/user/KipNuggetGamer

And you can find many video's on youtube how to download it for free :P
Only a bit hard to find out what everything is on the begin, but when you know the program, you can do alot of nice things with it :P ;)

I use both Apple Final Cut Studio, And Adobe Premier Pro, I like Final Cut better because it has so many addons that come with it, Motion (for graphics), Dvd Studio(implied), Soundtrack pro (for audio), and other things. Obviously being APPLE Final Cut Pro, you need an Apple Computer so if you don't have one Adobe Premier is the next big bet, AVID, is nice since they came out with client version, and AVID along with the other two is the industry standard, except most studios and networks still use avid, because of the money they put into the consoles and the servers that avid use to require, and the companies are not too quick to get rid of such an investment. Either way any of the three above will due, as for Sony Vegas im not a huge fan but, I did not start using Vegas until after I started using FCP and Premier so I was biased.

I've used a few, for the beginner you'd probably want to steer clear of things like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut - they are way in depth.

I think I finally settled on Ulead Video Studio, which was fairly easy to use. I went from source video, did edits, and then burned to DVD, although it was a somewhat slow process.

If you have access to a Mac, or think you're going to do enough editing to justify the purchase of something like a Mini (I think I got mine for ~$600 or so), or you feel up to the challenge of a hackintosh - iMovie is by far the best app you'll find for entry-level/amateur video editing. I finally decided to buy a macbook because of it.

I would get Imovie 06, if you have a mac, the newer Imovie 09 well, sucks. If you want 06 I can give you the required files and instructions.
