Creative Sound Card issues.

So, here's my problem.

Speakers work fine. I can hear everything through my speakers. Headset on the other hand, no sound. I can use the mic on the headset just fine, but there's no sound coming from the headset speakers.

I have a Creative X-Fi fatal1ty titanium pro, or whatever it's called and a Razer Baracudda headset. The speakers are logitech Z-5500, if that matters. My computer is running windows 7, and I did not have this problem when running Windows XP.

If someone has had a similar problem and was able to fix it, your advice would be great.

A couple questions:

• Do you have both your headset and speakers plugged in at the same time?
• If yes:
  • We need to figure out your audio outputs.
• If no:
  1. Close any programs that plays sound (i.e. web browser, a steam game, windows media player etc.)
  2. Unplug and then plug your speakers into your computer.
  3. Go Start Menu > Control Panel > Sound > Playback Tab
  4. Right-click on any of the shown devices, and make sure both: "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" are checked.
  5. Play music from multiple sources and take note of which outputs have green bars moving beside them.
  And then:
  1. Unplug your speakers from your computer.
  2. Close any programs that plays sound (i.e. web browser, a steam game, windows media player etc.)
  3. Plug in your headset. (Make sure the plugs are in all the way)
  4. Go Start Menu > Control Panel > Sound > Playback Tab
  5. Right-click on any of the shown devices, and make sure both: "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" are checked.
  6. Play music from multiple sources and take note of which outputs have green bars moving beside them.
• If you answered no to the last question, did you hear sound coming out of your headphones when you were playing music?

Speakers are plugged in through a ToSLink (Optical Audio) Cable. Headset is regular 3.5mm connectors.

it was working before, like literally, an hour ago. This just happened.

Plug your headset into a stereo. Doesn't matter which plug as long as it isn't pink. Do you hear sound from the radio?

First thing u should do is to download the most up to date drivers for your sound card.

Make sure to check if they have the latest drivers specifically for Win 7.

I had a similar problem with my sound card and installing the latest drivers fixed it ( i have the same sound card as you btw ).

Ok, I think I know the problem. You need to choose one as the default, but by using them both at the same time Windows doesn't know what the default is. I've been down this road, and your solution lies in the Sound control panel. I'm not running 7 right now, so I can't tell you how to get there, but you can search for Sound in the start menu's search bar.

Under the Playback tab, right click the Speakers (Creative SB X-Fi) icon, and select Set as Default Device. Does this fix your problem?

If not, hit me up via PM and I'll get you straightened out. I have this sound card and have been through a lot of these problems already.

Setting the speakers as the default device, rather than the SPFID port, I get no sound coming from either.

Plugged the headset into my laptop and it works fine.

I have the latest windows 7 drivers for this car.

Try downloading the drivers again. I was trying to hook my computer up to a home theater system and it didn't like that very well, but a fresh download of the drivers did the trick.

If that doesn't work, play some music or anything with audio. Then in the Sound window and Playback tab, take note of which ones are spiking and let us know here.

I fixed it.. Win7 has an update utility inside Device Manager. Ran it, works great now.

Creative xfi controll panel (audio control panel) found in progames under creative sound has an option in it that you check that auto detects headphones. The second thing is changing the speakers setting in the control panel from 5.1 to 2.1 when you use your headphones. It only takes a second. Try these things and post back if it works or not.

Holy cow. I just had the exact same problem and never got it fixed :/


Also in Windows 7 it won't let me install the Creative Control Center to adjust bass and equalizer settings. Are you having the same problem?
