cleaning up hard drive help

hey all.

My hard drive has been filling up pretty quickly, and I'm running out of space. I was wondering if there was a way to set up an external harddrive so i can delete all the songs from my iTunes library, but dtill have the song names in there. So if the external wasnt connected, itunes would say the file could not be be found, would you like to locate it, whenever I chose a song. How would I do that?

So you're looking at buying an external HDD? They're as simple as plugging them in and turning them on. Then you'd just need to locate where ITunes stores your music downloads, copy those files to the external, and change the default download folder to one on the external.

I just want all my songs to be listed in itunes, but the files to be on my external so I could get some hard drive space back but still know what songs I have.
