I think we know about this issue. Modern Warfare 2 is not going to support dedicated servers.

There are a lot of threads/posts about this subject, and a lot of them have been locked because they were turning into flame wars.

Please remember that you ARE entitled to your opinion, but, please try not to turns these threads into flame wars.

Be considerate and mature in your posting. Try to be constructive....not deconstructive.

Thanks guys.

I would think, from a business point of view, they would sell more units if they supported dedicated servers.

What is their business logic in doing this?

they are aiming for the casual gamer. the one who doesn't want to have to think about stuff, just jump on a play and get the exact experience they expect.

well they want people to play in matchmaking cuz they think that it would be more fair to the players.

so like a level 2 doesn't have to play with a level 55 10th prestige and is a pro at the game.
so i think some people will buy the game just because it has matchmaking now. either way people are going to buy it dedicated servers or not : /

I heard from my co-workers that it was to also help fight piracy. Even though a pirated copy can only play 2 servers anyways, it's still a huge mistake on their part.

Regardless of what anyone at IW says, the reason they've forced matchmaking is simply to control piracy and have the same control over the online experience as they do in consoles. Don't think for a SECOND that this is for the benefit of the gamer, although IW will definetly try to convince you of that.

I agree 100%. Which is why I wonder/wondered what their business logic behind this is.

They are a business, and it's about the money. It will be interesting to see the impact this has...

LOL i wanst really wanting this thread to turn into discussion...but have at it guys. just remember....be constructive.

Yea sorry about that Pedro, I'm still PLENTY pissed about all of this and it's hard not to vent.

Basically as Shadow said, its to stop piracy mainly from happening, and i guess to also level the playing field for the experience of some as labowsky said, which could be considered as a good idea but thats my opinion really :)

That's very true.

However, I still want to buy the game for its single-player. I really enjoyed the storyline in the first game, and am looking forward to how the new one plays out.

I had a huge argument with my Dad about this today.

He's one of those console FPS gamers. It didn't go well.

mm, :confused1:people were posting negative reviews on Amazon about MW2, mainly the lack of dedicated server issues. There (were) lots of reviews; however, Amazon decided to remove all of them. Isn't that kinda bad? I'm not an Amazon fan anyways, but if people want to give a negative review and have a reason for the negativity (like lack of dedicated servers) shouldn't that be allowed? meh, shame on Amazon

That happend to spore with the whole DRM issue, and it actually got the message across to EA and they removed it.

So....I dont know why they would remove it now.

I think they did out of laziness... as in the article they said that they were using an approach nearly the same as a console system and since lately games have been pre-formatted for consoles instead of pc not adding a dedicated server feature will allow them to release the game early in spite of fewer unit sales.

Im going to go sign the petition now.
