Calling all Windows 7 Users!

If anyone is using the new released Windows 7, can you please let us know your likes and dislikes on the product.

Also, I would like to know:

What version did you purchase?
Are you using 32 or 64 bit versions?
What applications are you running with it and their performance?
And if your gaming, how's the performance?


I currently use XP Pro and looking to upgrade into the Windows 7 realm. Everyone that I've talked to that has tested the beta versions said they like it more than Vista.

Your opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I got a friend who also used the beta version and he was impressed. Games either worked or didnt. I expect that to be fixed though. I've heard a lot of good things from windows 7 so I'm probably going to upgrade from XP

ya sure iv been useing it since the rc and have the full one now of pro

64bit so i can use all 8gb ram

to sum it up it runs just as snappy as XP with lots of improvements to the UI
i mainly use it for gaming and for the odd app that i need that works on windows only.
it's is the best version of windows that is out right now but i feel that as for as operating system it has nothing on openSuSE, and Snow Leopard openSuSE being my choice for genral use and Snow Leopard being what i use at the studio due to pro tools not being on linux.

i have win 7 x64 Ultimate (RC) it rules all other versions of windows (ok maybe 95 was better)
every thing runs fast

Likes:

Clean Interface
Fast
Not a memory hog
No bloatware (sidebar, windows mail, etc)

Dislikes:

Some driver problems (to be expected because not everybody has drivers yet)
Doesn't do my laundry.


Gaming and other apps:

Runs everything I have so far (I have x64 versions of this OS)

I have windows 7 Home. Why i felt there was no reason i needed better

Likes- it seems to run faster then vista
does not hog memory
Less errors and less crashes
menus are more simple, making it easy to access other areas

dislikes.

No outlook express- you have to use windows live mail
Icons are dumb, they have made them very simple. I liked the ones from xp-vista


I am sure as you use it more, it will look good and feel good.

i haven't got it yet, but i'll have it probs round the american thanksgiving time, which this years is what...the 27th - so thats like a late bday present for me
im specifically getting the pro version because you can run windows xp mode - i think that will come in handy a BUNCH especially if theres older games you like to play or something. i know i have a couple that im pretty sure don't work with vista/windows 7 but only up to xp.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Was previously using the RC and before that, Vista Ultimate 64.

My specs:

Athlon x2 6000+ OC'd from 3.0GHz to 3.8GHz (water cooled).
8GB DDR2 6400
2x Geforce 8800GT 512 SLI
2x 500GB HD in RAID 0
Soundblaster Extreme Audio
PC Power and Cooling Silencer 900W

The RC (build 7100) would loose audio if the machine went to sleep or hibernated. I would either get no sound or loud hissing. The RC would also occasionally need to reset the NIC. Both of those problems went away with the fresh install of Ultimate 64 retail (I didn't pay full price for it. I got it at a deep discount from Microsoft as I work for one of their partners).

My copy of Vista was highly tweaked. I'm running stock on 7 at the moment. I don't see any real improvements in performance. I suspect that will change when I dig under the hood and adjust various settings and services.

My machine is no longer cutting edge, but I think if I was running something a bit more pedestrian I would see an improvement without having to tweak 7.

im running Win7 Pro X64 RTM. got it for free about a month and a half ago from the MSDN.

noticable overall performance gain over vista ultimate. i love this latest version of windows. this is what Vista should have been when it was released..

Running Win 7 Professional 64-bit on my home computer.
I did a upgrade install on a Patriot Torqx 128 GB clean install. My old drive was a Raptor X 150 GB 10,000 RPM drive.

I'm a bit lost as to what to do with my old drive, I have too many random drives now.

Patriot Torqx 128 GB
WD Caviar Black 1TB
WD Caviar (forgot) 500 GB
WD Raptor X 150 GB (old Win XP on it)

So far, I'm migrating everything over to the 1 TB drive. I'm pretty sure I should be running RAID or else I'm going to be risking losing all my data there. *sigh*

I was told to keep the Torqx as a boot drive and I should be moving everything including profiles (c:\users\) to a storage drive i.e. 1 TB drive. I'm not sure what's the best way of doing this besides just recirecting my drive letter and changing my registry i.e. C:\users = U:\users

I really do want my main games Aion and TF2 to stay on my Torqx drive. That thing is a Beast.

I just need to upgrade my ram next to 8 GB XD I'm on 2 GB now lol. (that's pretty embrassing)

Home premium 64 bit over here. REALLY like it.

Run the normal apps, mostly gaming, lots of steam , Crysis, etc. Dont really see improvement in game performance. Was using Vista 64 before.

One thing i DO see is , i can now OC my video card without it crashing on me. ANY game before would crash with even a mild OC on my EVGA GTX 260 using 171 forceware drivers. Problem is gone.

Rest of the rig consists of an i7/UD3R/OCZ RAM/INTEL80GB SSD G2. Updated the firmware on the G2 , supposed to TRIM without the user even knowing it. I like to see if for myself though and went ahead and got the Intel SSD toolbox.

A TON of really cool features in WIN7 that will take a TON of time to play around with.

If your coming from XP, go for it, no doubt about it. I hooked my bro's home network last nite on his PC running XP... Not used to it at all. Windows 7 is clearly much much easier to use.

i used windows 7 OEM for a short time and loved it as much as i loved XP its an amazing OS no problems whatsoever. Currently running ubuntu linux

I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64. I completely love it compared to Vista Home 64.

I've thrown every program I would ever need for any kind of computing needs. From gaming to office work to even video and sound editing and have no complaints about it.

With every game so far I've ran I have seen no problems with any kind of graphics or any kind of lag. Running Photoshop 64 and Premiere CS 64 runs alot better in win7 than in my vista setup.

I've only had one problem so far and it had to do with running mIrc and vent at the same time. For some reason my sound would go out on my computer whenever I had the two running at the same time. So instead of unplugging and replugging my headset in everytime I just uninstalled mIrc and I've no problems since.

Over all Windows 7 is the OS that should have followed XP. Just think of it as if XP and Vista had a "love child" and only the good parts came out of it. ME is still the red headed step child crying in the cold.

The transition from Vista would be like nothing changed. But if you are upgrading from XP it might be a little different getting around but it is very easy to learn... just ask my wife who wouldn't even look at me for three days when I changed her computer to Windows 7. Now she loves it more then her old XP.

I have no problem with it. All the game/application I have tried have NO problem.

What I like about it :
The new desktop design.
The icon have a cool design.
The IE7 is more faster
The driver

What I dislike about it :
Sometime it do not save the things, so I need to re-do them again ..
And some others little things ..

But it's a great Window, I recommand it

I am still waiting for it. I should receive it during this week or next. I order the 64 bit Windows 7 Professional. My friends say they like it and that it was very fast.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on both my desktop and laptop. Both machines previously had Vista Business (desktop was x64, laptop was x86). There's been a noticeable improvement in performance. I was pleasantly surprised when I threw 64-bit W7 on the laptop (which is a 2-year old thinkpad with 2GB RAM) and the performance improved DESPITE the crappy on-board graphics and the old processor.

It's been a while and they still have work to do, but MSFT is back in the game.

I am currently using Windows 7 64-bit and I honestly see no performance difference than when I ran vista

There are a few nifty features that Vista did not have but I really had no problem with my last OS.

thats just my 2cents and brb my food is done
