I was wondering how many of the ATI fans out there were using a nvidia card along with their ati card to run physx on their games?

Secondly since Nividias' patch that prevents their cards from running physx when a ATI card is present have you just kept the older drivers in place to run it or downloaded the program to bypass it?

here is a copy of a link to what physx brings to game play.

The reason I'm asking these questions are I'm thinking of upgrading to a 5870 or maybe the 5870x2 when it comes out.

One more though is that with quad cores ect. you could run physx through your cpu or would that strain your system and drop your frame rates drastically?

Discussing the old drivers is fine - please do not discuss "downloaded cracks" on our forums. Thanks!

I heard somewhere, and for the life of me I can't remember where, but I did hear that ATI was working on their own sort of version of PhysX

I have always been a fan of ATI chipsets, Radeon cards to be exact. I've used them in all of my builds and have been very pleased with the proformance. I will say this for PhysX - It is a very robust physics engine. The BAD side of PhysX is that if you do NOT have a nVidia card - the computation for PhysX is placed on your CPU - not your GPU. This means that your processor now has to handle the game and the physics - and we all konw how demanding that can get.

As far as runnig cross fire with an nVidia and an ATI - I've heard of it and even seen it done, I'm just that kind of guy that I'll never do it.

i was wondering this myself, but there really isn't that many games that even feature physx - not ones i play anyway so im not too worried about it anymore
i did see that they are supposed to be featuring it in a lot of upcoming games, but haven't seen that happening yet
