My comp has a new cool trick!

BUAHHHAHAH. Looks like we're in the same boat, nancy! This seems like an artifacting problem. I realize that other people gave you the advice to get a new GPU, and your probably doing that right now.

Here's another thing that it could be (just in case the new card doesn't work, like it didn't for me). I've heard that this could be a problem with the power supply (PSU). I guess you have a laptop (???), so if all else fails, maybe replacing the PSU or the batter might work.
 
yeah it could be psu as well, i agree with watersnake, but my friends pc did that and he just went out and bought a new one, so he could have something better to game on...
 
You cannot have a 1gb stick and a 512 stick. Try using only the same capacity RAM.

You could try loading a linux distro and that will confirm whether it is/isn't a driver issue. i agree with shadow blade though, if you see it in BIOS, probably the card went bad :-(

It would have to be the graphics card, the only way the PSU might be involved is if it is having issues providing the listed wattage. Since this is a very old and low-powered graphics card, more likely than not it is not suffering from insufficient power. Also, since this occurs while viewing the BIOS and the desktop (when the card uses very little power) and not when the card is in 3D gaming mode. The damage to the card might have stemmed from the power supply overvolting; however, I think the hard drive(s) and motherboard/CPU would have been damaged at the same time as the GPU in that case. Overall, I think it's safe to say the problem is the graphics card alone.

Just for kicks I would attempt to blow out dust from the card, make sure the fan is operating properly, and re-seat the card. If that doesn't do anything, I think you're past-due for a graphics card upgrade anyway, enjoy the improved graphics!
