Auto-Reajust Resoloution

Is there any way to stop my tv screen or computer to stop re sizing its self every time it turns on and off. The reason being is that it finds what it thinks is the best resoloution for me but this isnt the whole screen. It thinks 1280x1024 is the best because it runs at 75 hertz tops, but i want a resoloution of 1920x1080. The only problem is that this only runs at 60 hertz tops so it resizes to the 1280x1024.

Please tell me a way of making it manual only. I am in vista if that is needed and on a ATI Radeon graphics card.

Did you look in display settings?

And did you look at the settings on your actual monitor?

A/ Yes i have looked in display settings and cant find anything a B/ it is 32 inch tv so where do i look?

if your running a nvidia card try using there control panel.
under display/resolution... I think what your asking for is there.

Not sure what it would be for an ati card... Never used one
