Think we can pull off solving this challenge before anyone else? $40,000 in the bank if we do.

http://networkchallenge.darpa.mil/

I know we've got the manpower, we're wide-spread, and we've got the central communication channel.

Registration begins December 1st, Balloons are launched on December 5th.

Whatcha think?

Great Find, I would PM some of the council about this so they can post up the Rules and also they can register for it... We have a really good shot at winning this!

I'll bring it up during the meeting tonight. If I can get on vent that is :)

Looks like a no-go for eGO guys. This taken from the rules:

2.
Eligibility
The DARPA Network Challenge is open to individuals of all ages irrespective of nationality or residency.
Employees of the U.S. Government and their immediate families are not eligible to participate. DARPA employees and DARPA support contractors and their immediate families are also not eligible to participate. Entries may be submitted by individuals only, and only individuals are eligible to win the prize. Corporations or other organizations may not submit entries.
Participants under the age of 18 are required to obtain the consent of a parent or guardian before participating in this competition. Underage participants are cautioned that activities involved in participation including interacting with others on social networking sites require the supervision of a responsible adult.
DARPA reserves the right to disqualify a participant whose actions are deemed to violate the spirit of the competition for any reason, including but not limited to, the violation of laws or regulations in the course of participation

Well... JohnT is an Individual :) He just has a big e-mail contact list :)

The whole point of the contest is social networking. But it can't be a group effort? That doesn't make sense to me. I wonder if it's legal for John to enter and we all help find the balloons and report back to him.

Ah, now I got ya!

Ok here's what we should do. JohnT: Sign up on the 1st and we'll find the balloons and send them in to you. You get $40,000 for EdgeGamers, Org. and everyone that finds a balloon gets a T-Shirt for free :) deal??? ok and... GO!

a t-shirt? I think we should atleast get a hoodie :)
Ewwww i dont want to get a Hoodie... he always wears that cap and sings "What is love".

Lol, seriously, if we were allowed to enter and we won, that would be AMAZING!

Yup, it doesn't say our games are limited to those in electronic form. Let's break on out into real life games.

I am interested. My friend and I will be writing a program to assist in the search. Depending on how much information we will need to be processing, we could harness the power of eGo members computers (you guys have beefy computers).

If you guys can figure out a way to get it to work, I'll help the best I can.

I live in a small town so I doubt one will pop up here, but I have other friends across the US as well and may get a lucky hit. ^_^

Yea We CAN do this, im sure. For this clan you dont need skills, and thats why we got sow many members. Everybody can join. And we got sow many servers on different games, thats why we got sow many members. Cmon guys let eGo win this $40.000!

Closed until otherwise decided by council. The rules do clearly state that the prize money is not meant for organizations, which is what we are.
