Has anyone noticed that the huge borderlands background seems to be lagging the other active content on the site? (Ads, signatures, etc?)

If you scroll while the background is showing, every other moving non-text element seems to want to stay put. It also impedes the accuracy, precision and smooth feel of the scrolling function.

The site also seems to be slower to load any page carrying the massive ad.


Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Or are we just going to have to tough it out? Because this is getting really, really, really annoying. (How much did they pay for that thing anyway?)


Fixed, you can block the site hosting the images by right clicking to it and hitting "Block images from..."

By this I assume your using Firefox with an addon? I block ads the manual way, by adding URL's to my HOSTS file and push it to my loopback address.

To be totally void of useful information - You could donate more, that would make the ads go away

Plus, if you're blocking the ad...we're not getting money. The whole point is to make money from the ad. If you can bear it, please don't block ads on the eGO website.

Sorry, but the background makes the site pretty much unusable for me. It's just an image, btw, no one can track it. I still have the banner ads and such working, clicking them, etc.

Get a better computer?

It runs just the same on mine, with or without the background. Loads very fast

Download and listen to the meeting that took place last night, then you'll know how important these ads are.

well too late because i have opera adblocking the images and have a user script to get rid of certain page elements

If you were at the meeting last night, you would know this helps out eGO a lot. And it runs the same with and without the background.

I really don't think it matters if he has the images blocked, The images still load as far as the websites concerned, just his browser blocks it. Either way eGO gets the money, if its by click then him blocking the images definitely does not matter because he has to click on it for eGO to get the money anyway.

I used ADBLOCK and it got rid of the borderlands background and it helped a lot!

This section of the board is for Tech help, not discussion on ethics or promotion for ads to up keep the server.

Someone asked for help to remove the ads to help with functionality of the site. I too get the slow down of the site with the ads. Some people do not have the money to simply go out and buy a new computer on the drop of a dime nor an upgrade for their computer. We who post in Tech Help attempt to resolve everyones issues that relate to hardware and software of eletronics. It is not my intension to make ethical views or money making tactics an issue but if resolving someones technical computer problem involves blocking ads I will tell them how to do it to resolve their problem.

If the Original Poster in any of the Tech Help posts gets satisfaction of our help from our resolutions and we accomplish a fix then our Tech Help postings are valid.
