Ok,

so i installed the new windows, and was surprised to see i dint have to loose all my files and what not (like prior windows). It seemed more like a update.

But

after it's all installed i tryed to get on DOD. Well it acted like it was going to boot up, but then the launch window dissapered. So i try to launch again, this time to be told the game was not avalibile right now, to try again later.

:scared:

So i restart steam,
Does the same thing.
Restart my computer,
Still, no luck.

I keep trying pointlessly like it might work eventully.
i try launching another game and it tells me that another game is still running.
I cntrl, alt, deltle and see that dod is still running in my aplication window. I shut it down and try to launch another game again. This time it works (TF2). I exit the game and try DOD again, it tells me that it's still not avalibe.

:cursing:

so i go to uninstall DOD by clicking the delete local content button. it asks if im sure, i say yes, then it dissaperes. i try again, still doesnt do anything. So now i go to my add or remove programs and try to remove dod, it thought for a second, then DOD dissapered off the programs list. But in my steam it was still there, so i checked the folder and shure enough, its still there. I try to uninstall steam using the same method and get just about the same reaction.

So i just go to delete the steam file.
It looked like it was working, until it told me it could not delete the DOD file because it was still in use, i cntrl alt delete and find nothing in my app window, but in my process window a HL2 something running.

:facewall:

i shut it down, and it finishes the uninstall. now steam is gone.

Idk what was going on, If its a serious problem with my windows of just a bug with my steam or what. Im not sure if after i reinstall if it will work.
But i think of myself as pretty good with computers, and ive never seen something like this.

Even if it does work, i would like to know what was going on.
Maybe it can help someone else in the future also!

Please help!

alright, first off, deleting local content uninstalls the game, so thats why that brought you grief.

Secondly, it sounds like you need to update either your video card or your directx. Update those two things and reinstall dods.

Then report back.

when you upgrade OS's, it's almost always a good idea to do a clean install instead of upgrading.

Also, make sure you go get video card drivers from ati or nvidia. Windows 7 makes it look like everything is gravy, but you still need to install that driver. Then go ahead and install steam, and your games.

yeah,

the video card thing skipped my mind.

But when i clicked delete local content, it did not do anything.
Thats why i had to do all that.

Yeah, it's alot better to do a clean install.

You're launching Steam out of the (.oldprogram files, or something) folder, which can cause alot of trouble. When I upgraded from XP to Vista the only game that I could launch out of that folder was World in Conflict. 1 out of 17 games.

Just delete that whole folder (except for your pictures and music, etc. and move them to another folder) and reinstall everything you want.

Starting over new is alot better than having a bunch of old files clog down your system.
