Hey guys I have been running a few Gmod and TF2 Servers off of Win XP but I heard that having a linux dedicated server would really be much better. I am getting a new computer soon and all I wanted to know is what distro is best for running the dedicated servers and how to run them (Terminal commands). I have already searched the Internet for this question and almost everyone has reported having error when starting the server up. Also I already have all the guts for the server like the cfg, addons, ect folders on XP and wanted to know if I could just move them over to linux without having to redownload all my admin mods after I have installed the base. So I'm kinda just asking for a how to :P

P.S. the two games I wanna run are TF2 and Gmod.

Thanks

any Linux distro will do just run it at runlevel 3 which is what most people use for servers because that runlevel is olny networking and cli.

and source dedicated server should run fine as long as you have it's dependences.

once you decide on what distro i could help you out or even make an bash script to do much of the work for ya.

linux is completely different than windows in how it works underneath and on the surface so you may have a lot of trouble learning it even if you are familiar with the CLI on windows
