This is a topic that any couch potato is likely to have something to say about: Shows that are canceled early. While some shows genuinely deserve to be offed early on, others are awesome and when are prematurely canceled it makes a lot of us rather sad. I have a feeling that this thread is going to mention "Firefly" a lot, but I'm still curious to see peoples opinions.
For me it has to be Carnivale. I rarely watch HBO original shows, they normally just don't appeal to me (And don't start shouting "Sopranos! Sopranos! Sopraonos!" because I thought it was rather dull.) but when this show started my parents became fascinated and eventually sucked me into it as well. It did have a somewhat shaky start, it was compelling, but to some it may seem to be going nowhere for the first bit. Yet the fact that it was compelling kept you interested and eventually it did make due on giving out answers and unveiling its big plot, but sadly HBO gave it the axe just when it was getting REALLY good. Why is that these kinds of shows always get axed when they're really heated up? I still recommend Carnivale though, its still a curious treasure and one can only pray a renewal or a movie (Be it theatrical or made for TV) to tie up the plot.
I think in second place would be The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. This was an awesome show. It was somewhat of a comedy version of Wild Wild West (The TV show, obviously. The comedy movie adaptation of Wild Wild West is hardly worth mentioning :glare
with Bruce Campbell, and anyone who doesn't think Bruce Campbell + Western + Sci-fi + The guy who played Gomez Adams as a horny old man who invents stuff = Awesome needs to be checked into a mental ward. It was taken off the air because Fox favoured the X-files... despite the fact that there was plenty of room for both shows on the block, in fact X-Files got extra ratings when Brisco County was around because X-Files came just before Brisco so a lot of people tuned in and saw part of X-files while waiting for Brisco County to come on. Hell, it was how my family discovered The X-files, and I friggen' love X-Files but if I had to choose, I would want my Brisco County back because it was just so damn awesome.
