People's Pocket medics

There is a difference between a pocket medic, and a medic who only see's his buddy he is healing.

A pocket medic is a really good medic, a tunnel vision medic should be thrown out of the game.

In the world of medicing, it's ALL about first impressions.

My first run with a particular medic (who shall not be named) on mesa, I went to their spawn room with a kritz; after we killed a few, we backed out, played it smart, went to A, circled back... by the end, we had killed 18 people in one life. That medic never fails to medic me when we play together now.

I've done this with a few medics now.... and let me tell you, it's great. Great first impression = lasting pocket medics. I have several who will do it, and they tend to come on at different times of the day, too. I sorta feel like a really smooth polygamist, but them's the breaks.

lol epic post Thereven :P

anyway, i usually dont get medics because i play spy (hint hint medics you need to pocket spys more hint hint) and well...i guess i dont get them when playing something else because i die alot and dont have the skill as them i once had, i used to get medics more often when i played soldier more so...get good at soldier/heavy/pyro/something front-liney and hope for a lucky medic to stumble along.

The very first time I played tf2, I randomly chose heavy, and all of a sudden the rest of the team changed to medic. I was a "noob" heavy with 7 medics on me. That was funny and random, and unplanned. It just happened.

I love to pocket medic. If I'm ever in the same server just ask and I will gladly follow you with my protonpac and feed you a stream of health. My only stipulation is that you must protect me! I get upset when I get backstabbed by the same spy numerous times.

Ive been ubered as a spy by friendly medics and enemy medics and still get a good killing sprey with them :)

I have few pocket medics. But my main pocket medic is my brother, because we can communicate really easily, and we wreak havoc because of that. He plays with an average of 10FPS, and he's better than most medics I've seen.

Did I mention that he heals EVERYONE he cans, and that actually NEED health, but he ubers me exclusively? But when I'm dead, and he has uber, he has to use it someone else. Also, he wouldn't uber someone else, because he and I know that I am pretty skilled with Soldier :p

Hell, he can even keep multiple people alive, and split uber JUST to save our team mate's live. That's some pretty impressive micromangement skills WITH an average of 10FPS. (His computer barely passes TF2's minimum. P4 2.6GHz, 1.5GB DDR RAM, 7600 GS AGP.)

Wow. I manage to play between 40-60 fps most of the time on blackmesa, because of the small corridors, computer needs to render less things. and 20-40 fps on more open maps.

I use a AMD turion x2 1.66Ghz, 2 gb ddr ram, and a Nvidia Geforce 6150.

Used some serious tweaking for that GPU.

fps does drop down to 10 during huge fire fights out in the open.

Man, every time I run around healing spies, they're all like "Don't heal me! You're blowing my cover! What's the matter with you!?!"

Geez, it's not like I'm causing them to undisguise or something. What's their problem?

What's sad about his machine is that I don't know what he does on it, and I see a LOT of desktop icons. He's also playing at the lowest possible settings, and is on DirectX8. The highest I've seen it go is maybe around 20-30 (in small corridors, but everywhere else is 10-15)

Guilty.

The thing is, usually it's someone I know really well, who are doing amazing. But theres a difference, some medics heal JUST that person, I'll heal everyone, but I'll always Kritz just that person.

wow.... the thread goes on

Alright lets throw in a few cents here as well then since I have a "little bit" of experience with pocket medics:

First, they know you will get massive amounts of kills and destructions without getting you killed, he looks out for you, has a mic (very important for the enemy spies near or people sneaking up to you) And the pocketmedics are usually tired of getting killed by foolish choices made by some players.

I know that I rarely play medic, but if I am a med I am probably a pocket medic to only one of the best players I know, such as galkafisher or black_hand in his old days (dont know if he still plays), they must be a heavy or a demo, since those are the classes in my eyes are the safest for the medic to be with. And the players have the skill to protect you.

Good communication skills between the 2 are vital, without it, you are as a couple a lot weaker, such when a kritsheavy is shooting down people and a spy comes from behind... well you better have a mic then, also the person cannot always protect you, so it is very important to know close combat, and how to stay alive, to dodge incoming shots, to kill people or the right time to uber.

I know I have quite a few medics in the time that I have played, and I got killed millions of times because some medics are only using their ubers after you are dead, It might sound not nice, but I dislike unknown medics healing me, since I know they will probably will wait with the uber for the last moment at 10 hp left.... so you chances of survival drop a lot... so I rather just stick to one person that I trust

Then all those things together sure make one hell of a team, why do you want to break that up, I know If I am in the middle of a warzone, I will just stick with the player I am teaming up with, losing him while healing others is a bad thing to do in my eyes. in safe places or if I see everything is fine, I will heal others, but mainly I will stick with the guy.

If you are wondering why you don't get a pocket medic, try this: play as a medic for a couple rounds. Attach yourself to a couple different players and see how it goes; change partners every couple of deaths. You'll see some players have some really, really bad habits when it comes to working with a medic. Witness these habits as a medic then ask yourself "do I do this?"

And then there are medics like me. Ha! Combat first, medic second. I pocket no one. If you get healed by me the enemy is probably already dead. This is my style of game play, sorry of you don't like it. I know I die a lot but I take plenty of enemies with me. If I see the intel sitting on the bridge in 2fort, you can forget about heals. I'm going for the objective. It would be better not to look at me as a medic, just another player with an automatic weapon. You think I ever get a pocket med? lol My needles will blot out the sun! But seriously, if my offensive strategy is failing, I tend to switch to medic mode and heal everyone as much as possible. But keep in mind, I can only heal one person at a time so if 5 ppl are on fire, sorry if I can't save all of you.

P.S. I can haz pocket med?

Yep, Yesterday on 2fort, we were getting hammered.
I asked both of the medics, who were healing snipers, if one would come to the front doors with me, as a Heavy,
One stated he had a kritz ready, but would only use it on a demo or solly.
Ok, that's odd but at least heal someone else in the mean time,
Nope, both stayed on Snipers, So after 5 deaths back to back on our side of the bridge, I stated "I guess we have no medics" and changed classes.
The first word in TFC2 is Team.

Yea...Im not a bad player but I rarely get a medic...I believe only you, FeatherFrog, heal me throughout a map on BM...

Yes Sabion =] I rarely see any medics on you....

And 100% agreed, Cliff.

I rarely medic. but when I do... its usually Gortex or Sabion, Utoma, and Thereven sometimes.

I usually get caught on the team against galkafisher. so, we have to fight it out :chair:
