How to integrate HDMI components?

I have a question about how to integrate my entertainment system.

I'm getting ready to buy a new surround sound system; the ONKYO HT-S6200 7.1-Channel. ( see new egg link here )

My question is this... this unit comes with 4 HDMI inputs (full 1.3, not passthru), and 1 output.

The tv I'm getting has 4 HDMI inputs (Samsung PN58B560 58? 1080p Plasma. ( See samsung link here )

I'm buying this receiver to replace my current 5.1 dvd HTIB. The new one does not have a dvd/blue ray in it. But..don't need one. I decided to also buy a PS3, which I will use if i want to watch a blue ray/dvd.

So, the PS3 also has a HDMI.

What's going to be the best way to hook/integrate all this together?

Well I think you sort of answered you own question. Your unit comes with 4 input HDMI and 1 Output. Reason for is because since HDMI can handle video and sound within one cable you wouldn't need to set it any differently. So just connect your PS3 and any other peripherals that use HDMI into the receiver. Then use the output on the receiver to the TV. Then your set. Only other reason to do it differently is like me. I have my xb360 HDMI to my TV but the sound is going out thru Optical because my sound system (Logitech 5500) only has 1/8 pin,Coax, and Optical.

I hope that helps.

That's what I was thinking, but was not really sure. My current system is a decade old (bought in 2001). I've never had to research HDMI before...

I forgot to mention the cable box, which also has an HDMI output.

If you turn on the PS3, does it auto show that input? Or do you still have to "change inputs"?

Are you able to control them all with one device? What I mean, is I read something about being able to truly integrate everything, not just have "separate" devices that a multi-function remote manages. I guess I will have to wait and see. I'm picking it all up Friday, and then the fun/dirty part of installing it all beings...

You run everything into the HDMI ports in the back of the receiver, and then one HDMI from the receiver to the TV.

It will not automatically switch based on what component is turned on, you do that yourself. If you want it more integrated, I suggest a Logitech Harmony remote that can be programmed to do it all with the touch of one button.

HDMI only sends audio and video signals, it does not tell the receiver what components are on or off, there is no way to do that that I am aware of.

ALSO, you can run any (component (RGB) + optical (spdif or coax)) or composite (yellow, red, white) into the back of that receiver, and it will shoot out the video to your tv. That way you only ever have to switch inputs on the receiver, even if a device doesn't have HDMI.

Same here except i have a PS3 but the HDMI is to the TV and the digital optical is to the receiver.
