Steve Jobs named CEO of the Decade

I know there are a lot of people who don't like Macs here, but lets put that aside for a second. Steve Jobs was named CEO of the decade today. When you consider that the man was thrown out of his own company, only to return and save it from bankruptcy, one can say he is deserving. I think it's a pretty amazing story to be honest.

Anyways feel free to read. Him and Bill Gates have always been open to discussion with each other. I always felt that was cool. The second link also has a cool rare photos slideshow.

I like these tech articles especially ones talking about key moments that affected future prosperities so don't flame me for it being an article about Macs.

I think everybody who plays with me knows I use Macs. Haha. (Sorry)

Well either way, if you read the story -- Steve Jobs basically hired a guy to run the business aspect of apple while he designed the products and that guy threw him out. Basically ousted him. That's gotta feel crappy.

Yeah but in the end, like you said, he did get taken back and save it. That's got to give you a feeling of glory far exceeding any emotional suffering from the first scenario.

I think it's fantastic. When I think of the title CEO, I think Steve Jobs. Nobody puts their face out there quite like him. He had to make tough calls (anyone old enough to remember the announcement of Microsoft's investment in Apple and the subsequent boo/hissing?) but always took success and failure in stride, at least in public. He kept his personal life personal and his business life booming.

Full disclosure: I've been a Mac fanboy since System 7

Yeah It's definitely interesting to read regardless. I think that his faith in Tim Cook (the man that replaced him while he was getting a liver transplant) leads me to believe that Tim Cook will be the next CEO one day.

Except that Steve Jobs is immortal! Despite my dislike of Apple, I recognize that he's done some extraordinary things. He probably won't retire for a long time.

Dude, seriously? It's his fault that you needed to jailbreak it in the first place. He only capitulated when there were too many people doing it to contain. Before that you were breaking the law in his eyes.

This is the same thought that has pervaded Apple's products since the 80s. You do what they say, use what they allow, or else you're breaking the law somehow. Check out the entire history of how they've prosecuted clone makers.

Clones were what gave the big boost to PCs. If Apple had ever become the dominant system maker, then technology would've been handicapped. We wouldn't have all these awesome computers and games we've got right now.


And the prime advocate of no clones? Steve Jobs.

Much as I love my new Windows 7, XP previously and 98 before that as well, I'd be more than happy to run OS X.

Anyway, I love my iTouch and once I have enough money to I intend to get myself an iPhone as well. For that much at the very least I'm so happy Jobs has received a much deserved award.

My mother's Mac crapped out on her 3 days ago. It turns on but never loads the OS. No disk utility or anything :/ So I'm just going to take it to a shop and see if they'll trade for a Windows.

I see Mac OSX as what Vista was built off of minus the Unix stability.

Without the iPod, there'd be no true mp3 player out there. M$ copied Apple in creating a mp3 player when creating the Zune. The iPhone is just marvelous because my father who hates cell phones, still relatively does, but he enjoys using the iPhone and its apps which is really what he uses it for with small calls here and there.

The biggest things Apple has done is a Unix based OS, the iPod, and the iPhone. Without these three things a lot would still yet to be fully developed.

I see Mac's as okay (the hardware, not the OS) because that thin MacBook Air or whatever its called must be like an atom bomb when it shatters into countless pieces. But hey they are advancing in thin and power saving which is great for college students so thats why I can deal with them more.

Having owned a MacBook Air I can tell you it was not a fragile machine. I dropped mine several times and it kept ticking. Only reason I got rid of it was to step up to the MacBook Pro, which is even more solid now that it's unibody.

Macs = Work and School, not gaming. Well if you dont count Bootcamp or whatever its called to run Windows.

I run TF2 within OS X via CrossOver Games. It works pretty well.
