Need help picking a TV

Ok, so i'm looking for a deal on an HDTV, and i've been looking all over the place for one... but no luck with what I want for the price I'm willing to spend.

Looking for something HD, no less than 32 inches, preferably around 40. I have a budget of $400ish.

Please feel free to post any good finds, they would be most appreciated! I'm hoping to pick it up around Black Friday too.
 
Whats the difference between LED and LCD? Another hype to make money off of?
 
LED are brighter better quality and really cool lol. But there is a price difference of about $1000+ depending on size of tv.

I went with the Vizio tv its awesome. 1080P resolution think it has 5 HDMI ports 3 componet ports, 2 regular tv ports and it has output for surround sound. Biggest plus it has a VGA hookup thats right you can run a 42" monitor mine cost me about $600 and you can play on the biggest desktop ya ever saw lol.

it has also a 27000:1 contrast ratio not the best but still very high considering the price tag on it.

I just (like 4 days ago), replaced my 9 year old 65'inch Widescreen DLP with a spiffy new 58'inch Widescreen Plasma.

  • A plasma screen has a field vision of about 180 degrees without loss of picture quality. That means you can watch the screen from any angle.
  • Plasma have excellent picture response. There is virtually no delay (blockiness or pixilation) like with LCDs. Mine as a .001ms response time!!

Same technology, different backlighting.

LCD TV's use fluorescent backlighting while LED TV's use LED backlighting. It means the contrast ratio is far superior on the LED TV's, but the color is about the same on both. The LED TV's are significantly slimmer too.

Just go with an LCD. Like others have said, they aren't worth the money at the moment.
 
I own a westing house 32" LCD HDTV its nice, as long as you have surround sound speaker system or something the built in speakers suck but it has everything plus VGA hookup.

You might want to look up bestbuy they had some nice samsung 42" LCD's for 598 a while ago, i know you said around 400$ but that will be hard to find. Sure around black friday the prices might drop a bit =)

Oh okay.

I hate to post this in this thread, but it's easier than starting a new topic when it's a simple question.

Anyways, since a 26-32in LCD TV has a resolution of 1366x768 how would that look when you plug it up to your computer? (the resolution seems kinda small but you would get better fps I'd imagine) I realize that they're only 720p compared to the 1920x1200 (1080p) TV's (not really worth the fps drop)

Just wondering because last year I bought a 19" LG monitor (1440x900) for $200 and found a TV that is $250 and is 26", would it be worth it?

There are also drawbacks to plasma as well, such as a faster screen burn in time and less lifetime than LCD.

If you're looking for a 32 inch, you're pretty much stuck with LCD, it's difficult to find plasma less than 40in.

I'd say read the reviews especially the ones coming from the experts. That's what most people do if they are unsure which one to choose. And comparing the LCD TV ratings of various brands might allow you to get the best bang for your buck. Good luck.
 
You don't want to put a Plasma TV in a bright room. They have a plexi-glass cover which reflects tons of light. The good part about plexi-glass is that acts as a shield. The kids could throw a ball at it and not hurt the TV. LCD would not take the abuse but also does not reflect much light.

LED is incredible picture. It can turn off each pixel such as Plasma to make blacks a true black. Con is the price. There should be tons of deals on LCD now as it is "old" technology now.

Another note, my beef with current tv's is their trendy piano finish. The finish picks up and reflects light which can be distracting to the eye. I would prefer a matte finish.
