hl2.exe failed

I have tried several suggestions from a previous post and nothing has worked.

Please help getting back into the game. I recently upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and now I can't load any Steam games.

Everytime I try to load a Steam game this error comes up: "HL2.Exe failed to load platform moduals". I contacted Steam Support over a week ago and they havn't been able to provide an answer that works and it takes about 4 days between messages.

If anyone has any suggestions, I sure would appreciate them.

I got this issue but only when trying to start up HL2 Deathmatch. TF2 and L4D1 and 2 start up just fine.

I'm not familiar with 64b OS's, does steam support 64b? or do you need to use an emulator like dealio?

He already had a 64-bit OS before upgrading. Downgrading it would've been really silly. And cost more too, I think. But anyhow, Steam supports 64-bit, as should all source games.

You should go through all that. It shows almost all the reasons that might cause a game crash.

my computer is 64 bit windows vista ultimate, i did have the same problem and it happens ever so often but usually i just launch the game again and it works. i dunno if yours is installed different or if maybe those games dont support it?

Perhaps your Windows 7 XP/Vista environment is corrupted. 7 has a almost a emulator that allows it run programs like Steam and Adobe right off the bat. Trying a full install of steam just to be sure and if not i would check your OS
