as of yesterday i loggd on tf2 and connected to my usual hang out- turbine when all of a sudden my computer crashed and a blue creen popped up. after it auto reset and i logged back in
the screen turned black and this flashed on the warning

nvlddmkm display driver stopped responding and has recoverd

since then i havent been able to play ANY type of video game. not css tf2 l4d or even 1.6 NOTHING

ive been lookin all day for solutions and im desprate for help :scared:
so plz? help?
 
if you haven't tried i would say to uninstall and reinstall the newest video driver and if that doesn't work you could try a beta driver

if neither of those work i have heard that some tv tuner cards cause that error to occur
 
ive had a hellish time with vista.
is windows 7 anybetter?
im thinking of ditching vista for hope that windows 7 dosent have as much problems as i have right now
 
Windows 7 is better than Vista.

But I agree with Master Shake. Attempt to uninstall and reinstall your video drivers. What is happening is that your drivers are crashing and windows is switching to basically a failsafe set of drivers. Thing is the failsafe drivers are meant to JUST display your screen and don't tap into any of your cards performance at all. So while you may average 50FPS maxed settings with your normal drivers, the failsafe ones you MAY get like 2 FPS on lowest settings.

Moral of the story, uninstall and delete old drivers, reinstall new drivers, and you should be good to go.

ive been looking into it and its vista wide. the nvidia forums about my problem is happening to many other the thread reacher 113 pages then locked to start a new one.
ima ditch vista as soon as i can,
horrible microsoft!

i have a geforce 9800 GT

step by step instructions would be GREAT
 
I will try to give directions to properly uninstal and reinstall display drivers,

step 1, goto start menu, right click on "computer" goto manage, a window will pop up

search for device manager in that window that poped up, a list of devices will display, look for "display adapters" double click on it, it will then have another list depending on how many display cards you have, normaly 1 but if you have SLI uninstall them both.

How to uninstall, right click on the video card goto uninstall, restart the computer.

step 2, goto www.nvidia.com download the latest drivers for your card, install and restart and you should be good to go. (ps. vista installs a generic display driver after you uninstall your video card, don't worry about that.)

Keep us posted if that helped.
 
The only thing I can suggest that hasn't already been said is to check to see if your video card(s) aren't overheating. I've come to realize that the simplest method first is almost always best when troubleshooting PC problems.
 
alright so i uninstalled it.
uploaded the new drivers,
then updated the drivers

but now when ever i log in regular i see the windows symbol and hear it, but after that it goes black and the monitor dosent work help! D:

EDIT: i finally was able to load the drivers and get back into regular windows and everything seems fine, as soon as i try to connect or play a game. il crash again and go back to blue screen and the pop up of the lower screen will flash display drivers crashed and successfully recovered. thanx for the help but... im thinking its a vista/nvidia thing going on and i got no clue what to do. guess i cant do anything but wait till windows 7 :scared: :frown:

well i upgraded to vista and im truely stumped...
the tower works with other people but not me.. can there be a monitor/cords issue that would cause this
 
I find windows 7 works much better with games, however I would suggest not upgrading just yet. Before you do, I would recommend contacting the computer's manufacturer (or video card's if you got it separately) and seeing if it is under warrenty. If it is the card, upgrading to 7 won't fix anything.
If you are overclocking, I would recommend reverting to base settings, as well as checking temperatures and such.
If everything looks ok for the system, you might try reinstalling vista to see if something just got corrupted. If it was the video card driver, reinstalling it should have fixed the problem in this case, but there are a host of other drivers that need to work correctly for the video card driver to function properly.

Whatever you do, I would say back up everything just in case something goes really wrong. The last thing you would want is to lose access to your data if the video card dies right when you really need it.
