Ever since...earlier on this week, every single time I open steam, it updates.
And since eariler this week, everytime it updates, it becomes SteamTMP.exe instead of just Steam.exe, and stays like that until i rename it. this makes it stop the update partway and i have to restart it to finish it, and it also wrecks havoc with my shortcuts. Whats going on?

Maybe uninstall it then reinstall?

You can also try and delete your "client.blob" file in the steam folder. Then restart steam, it should update fine after that That always works for me.
