How can a level 2 or 3 sentry detect enemies?

I know the level 1 sentry has a little lens near it's barrel for spoting the enemy team, but how can a level 2 or level 3 sentry detect the enemy? There's no indicator on both of them allowing it to scan for enemies.
Anyone ever thought about this?

I think there are tiny gnomes that live in the sentry and look for the enemies and they load the ammo and load the rockets and make the beeping noises...now that I think of it...the Engineer is kinda like a slave driver...always wacking that sentry, I bet those slave gnomes get a terrible shock everytime he hits it...crazy Engineer...

So of course the Engineer must of upgraded his sentries to be more compact!

kinda but i dont consider tf2 to be part of the rest of the fortress games (TF, QWTF, TFC, FF) it just plays way too different to be considered a squeal.

Advanced technology. The engie got Invisible lasers / heat seekers to track the enemy. Micro technology!

Yeah, TF2 doesn't squeal nearly as much as the older ones.
