I want to buy a monitor, price is about 300 dollars maximum for me. I found a few I wouldn't mind getting, but then I found out about 3d monitors. Right now the nVid monitors require you to were these special glasses, but other companies have already created 3d monitors that require no glasses at all.

Would I be better off buying a cheap monitor for now, and then buying a really good 3d monitor in a year or two? Does anyone here own a 3d monitor and have you experienced any problems with it?

What kind of monitor are you using now? And what is your idea of "cheap" monitor ?

Your second option is usually the best bet for "new tech" stuff. It's crazy to buy bleeding (new) edge stuff.

Wait a year or two..the next versions (or 4) will be out by then..bugs will be worked out, and the price will be cheaper.

I played with a 3D setup at store display; it was awright, but overall I felt it would be incredibly uncomfortable to wear those glasses while gaming (and probably wearing headphones). Also, the effects were interesting, but not enough to make me feel like it was something I wanted to improve my gaming experience.

(Oh, the game was RE5 on the PC)

Get a regular monitor now. 3D monitors and TV's wont become standard until a while.
Heres my order i believe.

OLED (Standard as in like LCD and Plasma are now)
then 3D
or it could be vice versa if im wrong.

Still, your better off getting a cheap monitor now and going 3D in a couple of years, theres like zero games that even support the 3D.

Well the price dropped $300 for the monitor and glasses in only 2 months, so you should wait and see if it drops even more.

My college has actually invested in a test pair of the nvidia glasses. Their trial programs that come with it do not work right. How the other 3d works is basically an illusion with a mirror. I would just get a regular monitor if I was you. Some games do not have full support for the 3d anyways, so the 3d monitor/glasses would almost be a waste.

personal General-Rule: If your monitor exceeds 50% of the cost of your gaming-rig....you're paying too much. ;)

Save yourself the money and don't buy a 3D monitor. 3D for gaming will never take off.

Yeah, I agree. I'd hold out on 3d until it becomes the norm.

Exactly. And aren't all modern games already 3D? :P

He means 3d like pops out at your like with 3d glasses and such.

Bah whatever, I caved and bought myself a 23inch monitor. Coming from a 1990's dell crt to 1080i lands on so many different levels of win.

Well done like Rambo Goretex. Looks to us you really needed a new monitor coming from a CRT and had no more time to listen to all of this. What did u go with , the ASUS? ACER ? I use a 23.6' ASUS and love it , was coming from a 14.1' laptop screen... Even though now i have the urge to add a couple more .

PewPew, glad someone can recognize a bit of sarcasm . Kinda hard to show it without speaking or showing emotion.
